you focused on michelle nunn. do you think michelle nunn has a better chance than jason carter?i've always focused on michelle nunn. she's ahead of all of her opponent and tied with dade perdue. that was going to be my focus all along. i'm very concerned about democrats maintaining control of the united states senate so that's where i've been spending my time. >> let me ask you about a policy issue. i've been doing this focus on georgia all week on the show and we were talking about this issue of water and this, frankly, fight. it involves the growth of the atlanta metro area and this issue of georgia's washington battles with the states of florida, alabama, tennessee. and within one of the things th surprised me is there is not a lot of reuse laws, forced reusing of water. what are you trying to do as mayor to try to deal with this water resource crisis that georgia is going to be dealing with in the near future? >> well, we're doing a number of this evenings. numb -- number of things. atlanta has cut water use over the past decade by 20%. we have moved forward with a number of

democrats had hoped michelle nunn could put some points on the board for them. so far she's not building a lead against any of her republican competition and in more good news for the nrsc, the tea party candidates in the field are floundering. who is leading? businessman david purdue leads nunn, 45-41 among registered voters. congressman paul brown would be -- up 3 on former secretary of state karen handle. best news for republicans is the two establishment candidates, david purdue and jack kingston are ahead in the crowded primary field. purdue is up and handle is third at 14. another one the establishment would be okay with. the tea party candidates trail with just 11%. it's almost certain the georgia republican primary race is going to head into overtime. no candidate is likely to win over 50% of the vote to avoid a runoff. expect the race to be between perdue or even kingston or handle. we see evidence kingston has been spending all of his time going after purdue of late. as for nunn, she is still overperforming over democrats in the state. jason carter is

>> it really depends on who the republicans nominate against michelle nunn. if the republicans nominate one of the tea party conservatives, possibly caryn hindle or paul brown. if any of those wins, democrats feel like they have an excellent chance of beating them. if purdue comes forward as a republican nominee or even kingston, those guys raise a ton of money. they have very sophisticated operations. they already have a very strong ground game because they have such tough primaries. they are going to take that momentum with them into the fall. for michelle, she's not necessarily going to be the master of her own dis destiny. the republicans will have to help her out a little bit, and then for jason carter, i think everybody agrees that he is a very bright light for democrats. can he beat an incumbent governor who has collars $4 million in the bank. the governor is going to have to make some mistakes. he does have a number of ethics charges against him. those are playing out throughout the fall and summer. again, he needs to really have a bad stumble for car
