first of all, how is michelle doing? >> michelle is doing well today. she had surgery earlier today. she came through with flying colors and so the doctor did a marvelous job with her hand and finger. she's not going to lose her fingers. we're grateful for that. the surgery went well. she's resting now and getting ready for the next surgery down the road. >> when you and i had talked earlier in the week, i think she had had a tube removed, which is painful and that hurts. is she able to talk more than she was? i don't mean necessarily about what happened but just talk to you and your wife? >> yeah, she's been communicating well. we've been with her all day and last evening when she returns from the surgery on yesterday. once she came out of the anesthesia, she was talking and laughing and feeling much better. >> that's great. >> so we're grateful for that. the doctors have been excellent at umc. they have done a marvelous job alleviating the pain caused by the assailant's bullet and we're praying and thanking god for the miracle. when she first came in

powell had to say laura: michelle fleury, thank you. for more on tod's decision, i spoke with a former governor of the fedeserve board who joined us from new york. the u.s. economy on the surface seems to be doing wellen was this a dve rate cut? >> yes, it was in fact ave defensive or pative rate cut.y that was reas rationale, which is something unusual. this is not the normal way moneta policy gets conducted. it usually is the case that the fomc will wait to see some real deterioration. but here the fomc did not want to wait. the fomc wanted to highlight in particular three weaknesses. one weakness having to do with weak global demand. a second weakness having to do with trade tensions. the third weakness, which got probably not amuch play at ace press confers it might have but was still mentioned, persistently low inflation. those were the factors that justified the rate cut and that you heard about in the fomc statement as well as in chairman powell's press conference. laura: the president is none too pleased. he has tweeted "powell

michelle: i think it helps. signal that the fed is willing to take action to offset downside risk is very important. i think consumers hear that and see that, but the fed message needs to continue to be that these are mostly about insurance moves. this is about the fed acting preemptively. it isn't about them seeing economic weakness or their own concerns of a recession unfolding. they are trying to do what they did in the late 1990's, where they are acting sooner to preemptively provide some push in insurance to ensure that the expansion keeps going. it is important to know that this federal reserve stands willing to take action to sustain the expansion. vonnie: at what point does the bond market let up, then? michelle: this is the kind of circular logic we have been talking about. we see the 10 year yields declining because the yield curve is inverted come about the yield curve is inverted because people are buying 10 years because they are worried about the 10 year yield. i think there are other factors at wo

now people will are stocking up on food, water, and back up generators ahead of time meteorologist michele grossman now is tracking this tropical storm for us it's getting serious good morning >> hey there, guys it's going to be something we're going to watch at least through the weekend. let's take a look at what's happening now. this is what's called the enhanced satellite you can see it's a small storm now impacting windward islands to the leeward islands that is today the next several hours. it will then pass south of puerto rico wednesday as a tropical storm and then eventually hit hispaniola. there are a few things we know about the storm. first it is in very warm waters so we do anticipate it to increase to a category 1 storm near hispaniola. 75 miles south of saint lucia, it will move its track west over the next several days. by hispaniola category 1 storm this will be the key there as it moves over the mountains in the dominican republic, we could see it kind of break up a bit. so that will be the telltale sign of what will happen to the u.s. at the very latest we're going to see

kingston live now with white this vigil is unique michelle.e've been to a lot of vigils over the past couple days communities coming together to remember those victims but today's vigil is just a little unique because this one, it's just the 6 year-old stephen romero, there sitting behind me here just outside of san jose city hall there leaning on each other for support and remembering all of the victims tonight but steven especially his grandmother is also here in tells us stephen's parents are still in the hospital but that they are starting to do a little bit better. the entire family though is of course grieving missing stephen, a young boy they say was always smiling you can see here they have live a few candles made signs that say gilroy strong and asking for the gun violence to stop one of the sign says that one child's life is worth more than all the guns on earth they hope but together they will eventually be able to help each other heal and see more people starting to show up now a lot of people giving each other hugs and of course j
