michelle franzen has the latest. >> one day after the horrific midair collision.rews lifted the mangled wreckage of the downed sightseeing helicopter. engineers located the el kopter on to a barge so ntsb investigators can search for the wreckage. just north, ntsb officials say they also located the fuselage of the small plane. >> divers are working to confirm whether those targets might be the airplane. then they'll work on recovery of the airplane. >> reporter: but the main focus for divers the recovery of all the victims. so far 7 of the 9 who died have been found. liberty tours say the pilot of the helicopter was jeremy clark. a new zeeland native who was living in new jersey. five italian tourists on board had just taken off for a 12-minute big apple sightseeing tour of the manhattan skyline. in teet-- all are from pennsylv. >> i happened to be on the phone with his father. and his father saw it. he knew exactly what it was. it was tragic. >> reporter: this home video shows the crash aftermath. you can see the ripples where the helicopter went down along with

michelle franzen has the latest. >> reporter: divers searched for the remaining victims below the murky waters of the hudson river until nightfall. in all, nine people died when a sight-seeing helicopter and single engine aircraft collided midair at midday. the ntsb, now on sight and in charge of the investigation. so far, officials hav only located the helicopter wreckage. >> they're using side-scanning sonar to locate the airplane. >> reporter: the victims, a pilot and five italian tourists on board the tour helicopter. on the plane, the pilot and two passengers, including a child. soon after the crash, officials say it was clear no one could have survived. >> this has changed from a rescue to a recovery mission. >> reporter: it was a clear day with flying conditions nearly ideal. investigators say the helicopter, owned by liberty tours, took off from the manhattan heliport. the small plane departed teterboro airport in new jersey. witnesses say it appeared the ane clipped the helicopter's tail. >> i seen debris come flying down. >> went right in, there was a flash and it was complete

michelle franzen is in his hometown of hyannis port, massachusetts, this morning. she joins us with more on today's memorial services. good morning, michelle. >> reporter: well, good morning. we're here in boston at the john f. kennedy presidential library where the line swelled last night. we hear estimates up to 20,000 people turned out. lines so long they had to extend it into the night. they came by the thousands to the jfk presidential library where senator edward kennedy's body lay in repose. and they waited in lines up to four hours long. just to pay their respects. >> he feels like, you know, for evybody's favorite uncle. that's what ted kennedy feels like to so many people. >> reporter: family members greeting the crowds, including the senator's widow, vicki. hugging and thanking them. >> we're so honored that so many people have come out to pay tribute to my husband. and i just wanted to thank them. >> reporter: those who felt compelled to attend kennedy's fub farewell included many americans who were touched over the decades bylaws kennedy helped pass. ci

michelle franzen has the story. >> reporter: this morning, new rules for credit card companies and new protections for consumers. laws kick in today giving users more notice when companies make changes to their account, and the tools to say no to rate hikes. after years of confusing statements and soaring interest rates, consumers say it is about time. >> i feel that they're not regulated enough and they need to be regulated. >> reporter: banks are required to send statements 21 days in advance of the due date instead of 14. it gives customers a better chance of paying a bill on time. if a payment is missed, users have more options if the company wants to raise rates and late fees. >> the consumer has to get a 45-day advance notice before the interest rate can go up, and they have the option to decline the interest rate increase and pay off the balance over time. >> reporter: but consumer advocacy groups say banks and lenders are making changes to counter the new laws, including raising interest rates and fees across the board. and consumers need to be diligent. >> always pay your bill

nbc's michelle franzen is live. tell me the story. >> reporter: the update is some of the people are still at the hospital with broken bones and bruises. three people needed to be pulled from the water, and four others that went in were able to get out on their own. let me give you a scene setter here. look back beyond the trees, that's the area known as thunder hold. the whole region here of where the group of about 20 people were watching these waves yesterday. and it was during high tied. also during hurricane bill waves. and swells were up between 12 and 18 feet. it came crashing on the rocks. and thunder hold getting its name because the waves can be heard crashing on to the cliff. and the coast guard responded quickly and able to retrieve two people out of the water quickly, but the 7-year-old nonresponsive when they reached her. >>> coming up in the next hour of the meetings, we will talk with bill karins about what is behind the rogue waves. >>> the international manhunt has come to an end in canada. jenkins

here's 11 news reporter michelle franzen. >> divers searched through the murky waters of the hudson riverntil nightfall. in all, nine people died when a helicopter and single-engine aircraft collided at midday. the ntsb now on site and in charge of the investigation. so far officials have only located the helicopter wreckage. >> they are using side-scanning sonar to locate the airport. >> the victims, a pilot and five sal italian tourists on board the tour helicopter. on the plane, the pilot and two passengers, including a child. san soon after the crash, officials say it was clear no one could have survived. >> this has changed from a rescue to a recovery mission. >> it was a clear day with flying conditions nearly ideal. investigators say the helicopter, owned by liberty tours, took off from the manhattan heliport. the small plane departed from new jersey. witnesses say it appeared that the plane clipped the helicopter's tail. >> i saw debris come falling down. >> there was a splash and it was completely submerged just like that, and there was nothing else. >> the ntsb says the pilot of
