michelle goldberg of the nation.reating joy with the joy of explaining what hillary clinton just said. she for it or against it? >> i think everything we know about hillary clinton is she is a free trader, she is a globalist. that is who she is. >> are you? >> myself personally? >> yeah. >> you know what? i'm sort of two minds. >> the most educated people i've been taught from the time we were in grade school, putting up big, closing the door doesn't work. which that setup i think the concept sounds so good on paper. but i definitely am sympathetic to the motion that nafta did hurt american workers in sense that since american wages are so much higher, we have to bring up the wages of the world around the world outside the u.s. the only places for american wages to go in that equation is down. i definitely think there was a downside to nafta. so i'm really sympathetic with that argument. at the same time, the world is the world. you can't close yourself off from it. the united states has to compete or not survive. i

joining me now, sabrina sudeki neil michelle goldberg senior contributing writer for "the nation." thank you all for joining on this holiday weekend. michelle, i want to start with you and ask you what is going to be the motivating factor for 2016? what are the key issues and who are the exciting candidates in your view? >> actually i think it's too early to say what are going to be the key issues. i don't think we yet know whether it's going to be a big foreign policy election whether iran will still be at the center of the debate. i think it's extremely unlikely rand paul would be the candidate, but it would be really fascinating to have an election between a sort of more dovish isolationist republican and a hawkish interventionist democrat. that would scramble political categories in a way that we haven't seen in many many years. i mean you know if i had to guess, it's going to be hillary clinton obviously as the democrat. unlike a lot of people i think that jeb bush is pretty unlikely to get the nomination. i think there's a big difference between a jeb bush and, say, a mitt rom

joining me now, michelle goldberg, senior contributing writer at "the nation."boehlert, senior fellow at "media matters." what do you make of this, eric? >> the uranium story is interesting because there is a lot of stuff missing. if you look at that deal, when you read it from the times, you're like, oh my gosh, quid pro quo. we have a smoking gun. the deal had to be approved by the white house. the state department. commerce. treasury. energy. nuclear regulators commission, utah nuclear regulators. the idea that hillary clinton controls all those entities because someone paid her husband for a speech and she decided to change u.s. policy? >> there is this board -- the way the process works is that there is a board that's -- >> intergovernment. >> intergovernmental board with different stakeholders that have to sign off on the deals and the state department was one of the members of that board. >> one of many. >> here is my feeling, michelle. there is a bunch of distinctions to make here. let's just focus on this uranium thing now. to me what the clinton people
