i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat.:30. >>> new this morning, a big fire overnight drove dozens of people out of their homes in the east bay. kpix 5's anne makovec has the latest from the scene on international boulevard in oakland. anne. >> reporter: the red cross right now is trying to help the 37 people who are homeless this morning because of this huge fire. it started in the back of this blue building here behind me. quickly went up the wall, shot through the roof and then spread to that white building next door. the fire broke out at around 11:00 last night, firefighters quickly went to work trying to save the 10 apartment units amongst these two buildings. but they weren't able to so there were the 10 units on top and then three businesses on the bottom. a bake shop, hair salon and bookston on 23rd and international boulevard. in addition to the 36 people out of their homes, five dogs are missing this morning. >> we heard the explosions. >> we thought it was gunshots or a crash out front because that's my room. >

good afternoon, i'm michelle griego. the latest aftershock felt at 10:56 this morning. a 2.5 hit near napa and before that a 2.0 hit in the same area. this is the latest of a series of aftershocks this morning all within two hours but the first one this morning was biggest a 3.9 near american canyon at 5:33, the next one two minutes later a 2.7, and followed by a 2.8 aftershock at 6:12. then a 3.0 struck a 6:45. let's check in with lawrence karnow in the weather center. >> it was a wild morning this morning seeing earthquake after earthquake really just several minutes apart for three of them but yeah, it continues now as we are seeing the earthquakes settle in along the west napa fault and rumbling throughout the day. we have seen over 70 so far since the earthquake on sunday morning, expecting to see more of these along the fault. the problem is a lot of the structures, a lot of the damage done to the buildings should we see a stronger aftershock, that could cause some of those to come down so we're watching this closely. there's only a slight chance of seeing a stron

i'm michelle griego. >> hi everyone, i'm frank mallicoat. and 5:30.nd new this morning, east palo alto police are trying to find the culprits after four people were shot late last night. kpix 5's mark kelly joins us live out of east palo alto now with the very latest, good morning mark. >> reporter: good morning frank and we have learned that a young adult male is dead this morning and according to east palo alto police, there are three additional victims all of them young adults. one male, two females. those three additional victims all in the hospital this morning with nonlife- threatening injuries. so this shooting happened a little after 11:30 last night on hunter street and purdue avenue in east palo alto. nearby, the elementary school. now seven minutes after the call first responders were on the scene where they found the four victims. all shot while inside a parked car in that neighborhood. now this is the second shooting involving several victims in east palo alto just in recent months. last month, july 27th, three people were shot. so once a

. >>> good afternoon everyone, i'm michelle griego. >> hi everyone, i'm frank mallicoat. developing news at this hour. an investigation now underway into what caused a single engine plane to crash at rural marin county last night killing the pilot on board. mark kelly was near the crash site this morning and joins us in the newsroom now and mark, what do you know at this hour? >> reporter: well frank according to the marin county sheriff's office, the pilot was scheduled to fly a single engine beechwood plane from brookings, oregon to the marin county airport monday night. seven miles from that airport, air traffic controllers got two messages from that plane. one, a report of engine trouble. followed by an electronic distress signal around 9:30 monday night. this morning that was all that's left of the plane. off hick's valley road in marin county. until loved ones are notified we are only being told the pilot was male. people told law enforcement what they heard. >> just recently we were speaking to some of the ranch owners in the area and concerned that there were two

i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. right now, friends and family of alex nieto are gathering in san francisco. anne makovec is live with the action they are taking. >> reporter: a few dozen people right now starting to gather at the top of bernal heights park and they are going to make the three-mile walk to the federal building in san francisco, where a new lawsuit will be filed in this case. supporters of alex nieto gathered for a sunrise ceremony to mark five months since his death in the same place where he was shot and killed by san francisco police in march, bernal heights park. >> there is no reason for alex to have died. >> reporter: nieto was 28 and worked as a security guard. officers got a call of a suspicious person in the park. police say nieto pulled out a taser and that's when they fired, thinking it was a handgun. >> everybody in the community should be held accountable including police officers. they are here to protect and serve, not take our lives. >> reporter: lawyers for nieto's family will file a

. >> i'm michelle griego. as students head back to class, the ground is still rumbling. more aftershocks in the north bay today. three quakes have been recorded so far. the largest a magnitude 2.2 that struck healdsburg at 3:36 this morning. not a powerful quake but it goes to show the ground in the region won't stop shaking. 94 aftershocks have been recorded since sunday's big 6.0 temblor. a majority have been insignificant but a few definitely were felt. among them, a 3.5 aftershock that struck just four minutes after the big one followed by a 3.6 later that day, yesterday a 3.9 and 3.0 aftershocks rattled the napa area. >>> and meteorologist lawrence karnow is keeping a close eye on all that ground movement. >> lawrence, this is pretty normal after a big earthquake, right? >> it is. the ground is trying to settle into its new neighborhood. it's been moving quite a bit after that big earthquake. the last 24 hours, more shakers continuing really along the west napa fault. that's been the main place. but, of course, that energy can also be transferred to some of the othe
