i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi.eport suggests several courthouses in the bay area could see pose a serious danger to people if a massive quake strikes. kpix 5's jessica flores is live in oakland with the details. jessica. >> reporter: kenny, nine bay area courthouses would be unsafe during an earthquake and one of those is right behind me. the alameda county administration building actually has two civil courts on the 3rd and 4th floors. it's ranked the second worst in the state. the worst is actually in southern california. in glendale. the state report found 56 california trial court buildings pose a risk to human and building safety in the event of an earthquake. the report gives lawmakers recommendations as to which courthouses urge gently need funding for retrofitting. the cost of doing the 12 highest building would be $320 million. this is at a time when the state already lost about $1.4 billion in court construction funds. so other high risk court buildings in the bay area include the sonoma county hall of ju

i'm kenny choi. >> i'm michelle griego. time now is 6:30.5's jackie ward is live to tell us why the changes could be put on hold. jackie. >> reporter: good morning. so these plans to improve the sausalito ferry terminal has been in the works for years but the city is fighting against them because they claim the golden gate bridge district is violating an agreement that they made decades ago. ago. the golden gate highway and transportation bridge district says that they need to improve the aging sausalito terminal in order to keep up with federal rules for accessibility and plans proposed back in 2014, designs for flatter wider ramps and a better boarding system to ease congestion. sausalito filed a lawsuit alleging they tried to circumvent the environmental quality act by withdrawing city consent on the project. sausalito says per a lease agreement written in 1995, the district must get plans approved by the city before making any major alterations. despite all of that, though, the district is still trying to push its plan through. they are

i'm michelle griego. kenny is on assignment. new at noon, alameda county investigators revealed new details in the death of a castro valley woman. >> reporter: the sheriff's office says the suspect confessed to killing the castro valley woman. the horrifying scene rocked the castro valley community. the body of a newly widowed woman found in her burned out home. >> this was a break in the case that we needed to make sure he got charged. >> reporter: 36-year-old -- confessed to the murder while locked up on an unrelated sexual assault charge. surveillance video shows the suspect walking around the neighborhood, randomly picking homes to burglarize. according to alameda county, the victim confronted the suspect. he stabbed her and set the home on fire to cover it up. >> the district attorney determined that the fire was related to torture. >> the sheriff's office has uncovered evidence, including the vehicle involved. the hunt for the suspect was months long. >> it's very disturbing to the entire neighborhood, the family, our dete

i'm kenny choi. >> i'm michelle griego. time now is 6:30.x 5's sandra osborne is live in san jose where the trial has been going on for three months. >> reporter: three long months of witness testimony. those closing arguments expected to begin at 9:00 this morning before the jurors will begin deliberations. 26-year-old antolin garcia- torres who could face the death penalty is accused of murdering 15-year-old sierra lamar in 2012. her body was never found. cameras have not been allowed inside the courtroom for the trial. we have video from previous hearings and courtroom sketches. the main focus for the prosecution throughout the trial is other physical key evidence including dna found in garcia-torres's car and on lamar's clothing found in a field near her home outside morgan hill. garcia-torres has two children and has been in custody since 2012. by the way he is also accused of attempting to kidnap three other women back in 2009. he pled not guilty to all charges. closing arguments set to begin at 9:00 this morning but if you are wonderi

i'm anne makovec in for michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. >>> later this morning investigators wille at the new water park in dublin. they are trying to figure out how a little boy flew off one of the slides. kpix5's jessica flores is live outside the wave with the latest. jessica. >> reporter: kenny, the wave water park here in dublin just opened. it was the grand opening on saturday. a lot of folks were trying to ride all the slides here and one of them was a 10-year-old little boy. he climbed that slide behind me, went down and then when he reached the bottom, the landing area, that's when he fell off. now, that slide is called the emerald plunge. he fell off at the edge of the slide. the ground was 2 feet below. the boy was able to walk away with scrapes and his parents had to take him to the hospital to get checked out. the city of dublin owns and operates the park and after the accident they closed the emerald plunge, they also closed another slide citing safety. the city says the emerald plunge slide can be found around the world. >> and until we can, you know, resolve what o
