i'm michelle griego. and i'm anne makovec -- kenny is off. the fires that tore through napa good morning. it is tuesday, october 10. >> the fires that tore through napa and sonoma counties yesterday are still raging out of control. they have already proven deadly. 11 people are dead. at least seven people killed in sonoma county, two in napa county, and one in mendocino and one in yuba county. we will not know the full extent of the damage for some time, but we do know at least 1500 homes and buildings have been destroyed and more than 20,000 people have evacuated. at least 15 fires are burning in seven counties. evacuations are in effect in solano county as well due to fires nearby. right now, none of the fires are contained. >> a lot of people got separated from their loved ones during the chaos. so far sonoma county has received more than 100 missing persons reports. but some of those could be multiple calls about the same person. if you're trying to locate a love one, there is the number, 707565 38 56. a curfew is in effect for parts of s

i'm michelle griego. >> and i'm kenny choi. firefighters could have the north bay wildfires contained by tomorrow. but in the santa cruz mountains, the battle is far from over. the bear fire started monday night on bear creek road near highway 9. seven firefighters have now been hurt. 300 acres burned. it's only 15% contained this morning. the bear fire has destroyed four structures. cal fire captain says the santa cruz mountains are posing a challenge to the crews. >> very steep terrain, very loose footing, very dangerous hazardous conditions. >> officials say that they have made some progress. several evacuation centers are also open in los gatos and felton. those are the evacuation centers. >>> cal fire says it has now halted the progress of all wildfires in sonoma and napa counties. among them, the tubbs fire. 91% contained. the atlas fire 83% contained. and there is 80% containment of the nuns fire. the clean-up of toxic waste is now a priority for many people in the wildfire areas. jessica flores joins us live from santa

i'm michelle griego. >> and i'm kenny choi. the battle against the flames is far from over this morning. the bear fire broke out monday night along bear creek road near highway nine. 7 firefighters have now been hurt. 300 acres burned and it's only 15% contained. the bear fire has destroyed four structures. cal fire captain jordan motta says the santa cruz mountains are posing a challenge to crews but so far, they have made progress. >> we're working to control the fire and stop it from spreading. there's still uncontrolled fireline out there due to the limited access but we're making very good progress. >> there are close to 900 firefighters battling the blaze. officials say they are doing a lot of work dealing with hot spots and damaged trees that they have to take down. hundreds of people are still out of their homes. here's a look at evacuation orders now for santa cruz county. several evacuation centers are open. this man, 54-year-old marlin coy, of boulder creek is now behind bars for allegedly looting an evacuated home.

i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. kpix 5's sandra osborne has more from the santa cruz mountains fire. >> reporter: good morning to you. right now, the good news is that there's very little wind out here but right now we have some ash coming down on us. there is smoke behind me and you can see the flames in the canyon. we are in boulder creek. the flames have been moving throughout the morning from the left side to the right side of your screen through dry brush, the dry trees also going up in flames. now, with the dry conditions, this spreads from 10 acres to 125 acres overnight. cal fire says this has the potential to spread to 600 or more acres. it started as a structure fire on bear creek and deer creek last night before spreading to vegetation around it. right now evacuation orders are in place. they use reverse 911 calls to warn residents. cal fire also tweeting saying: >> reporter: one woman evacuated to los gatos was worried for her pets and neighbors. >> yeah. i have pets all my neighbors have pets. one of my

i'm michelle griego. >> i'm anne makovec in for kenny choi this morning. >>> fire commanders keeping a close eye on the forecast because shifting gusty winds making their way into the fire zone. right now, there are at least 17 fires burning across northern california. this is a look at the biggest ones. they are still causing major problems. here is what we know right now. 17 people are now confirmed dead because of the fires. that number is expected to rise. more than 2,000 homes and businesses are destroyed. crews have been making a little bit of progress. the largest fire the atlas fire is 3% contained. two other big fires in the area now 1% contained. the nuns fire is tearing through parts of glen ellen near the napa-sonoma county border. jackie ward is live near the area right now. jackie. >> reporter: we're on bennett mountain road and this is as far as we could get on the way to glen ellen right now. we got stopped at sonoma mountain road because of road closures. i just spoke to cal fire. they have a station just down street here. firefighters have been at this now four days

i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. this is what the bear fire first look like when it broke out. it is burning along bear creek road near highway 9. anne makovec is live with more on the firefight. >> reporter: the conditions are good this morning. cool temperatures, no winds, because otherwise, firefighters have a lot working against them. this is prime fire season. the fuel is drive and accessibility around here is near impossible. this fire started monday night when a building caught fire near bear creek canyon road and deer creek road in boulder creek. it's 5% contained. it burned about 300 acres and four buildings. not sure how many of those are homes. the fire is burning in steep terrain, dry fuel, leaves and brush. a lot of the strategy is to fight the fire from the sky with water drops and fire retardant. 150 homes are under evacuation orders today. >> i turned around and all of a sudden i saw the flames in the living room and i saw like a light. i took my stuff and ran. >> i got asked to leave about 1, 2 a.m.

i'm michelle griego. >> and i'm kenny choi.an who opened fire on a country music festival in las vegas may have been planning to do a whole lot more damage. according to authorities, two types of explosives were found in his car in the mandalay bay parking lot, the first ammonium nitrate that was infamously used to bomb the oklahoma city federal building. >> timothy mcveigh put about 2500 pounds of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil into a van and exploded it in front of the building. >> the second, 50 pounds of tannerite is legally used for long range rifle practice. in large amounts it's incredibly dangerous. the rifles and rounds paddock used to shoot at the crowd and nearby fuel tanks at mccarron international airport were capable of detonating the tannerite. >> i would suspect that he was probably going to used tannerite to either accelerate the ammonium nitrate with fuel oil or use it as an explosive itself. >> police say that paddock was researching other large events around the country, police are still looking for people wh

i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. >>> new this morning, uber is once again in hot water. two former female engineers have filed discrimination complaints. kpix 5's jackie ward reports from the newsroom. >> reporter: just this morning, we heard from uber about what they called broader changes to their employee practices this as two more former uber engineers file a lawsuit against the tech company. the women allege that they were paid unfairly and face workplace discrimination. according to the the information, a tech news website. they said they were ranked by attractiveness by men and uber had a culture of reference for men's. this is not the first time uber has been criticized for its workplace environment. back in june, sam singer a crisis manager had this to say about uber. >> it's a wonderful, incredible invention that's brought convenience to everyone. on the other hand, the management of the company is disastrous and needs to change. >> reporter: similar lawsuits to the one these two engineers filed have been filed against other tech companies. the information says
