i'm kenny choi. >> and i'm michelle griego. s more from oakland. >> reporter: kenny, michelle, this is a landmark case. really the first of its kind heading to federal court today for the first of its ever hearing on climate change. the cities of oakland and san francisco blaming the "big oil" companies for rising sea levels and they say that areas like this one where i'm standing in oakland here, jack london square, could be under water if things continue as is. and they are suing the oil companies for billions of dollars. today the "big oil" companies as well as the cities head to federal court for a hearing, a tutorial on climate change. both sides will present the best available science on global warming, melting ice, sea level rise and coastal flooding. the judges asked for that tutorial and the cities are arguing that oil production heated the planet and caused rising sea levels which will wipe some cities out by the turn of the century. each lawsuit names the five biggest oil companies, producers of fossil fuels in the wo

i'm michelle griego. >> and i'm anne makovec in for kenny choi. we have live team coverage monitoring conditions across the bay area this morning. jessica flores in the east bay, katie nielsen up in the north bay and jackie ward is in san francisco. let's get started with neda iranpour who is tracking the storm. >> look what's going on, on hi- def doppler. some areas of hev. st. helena, yountville, sonoma, hasn't let up for a while. a rot of north bay hills were getting -- a lot of north bay hills were getting dumped on and novato, as well. this area got a break a light drizzle 30 minutes ago and it's picking up again. we had drizzle in berkeley and now the stronger cells are coming through moving from the north to the say the every south. hayward, union city, we are noticing the rain. we saw good rain totals throughout san francisco. san jose rain totals so far still a tenth to two-tenths of an inch. not too impressive but it will start to pick up. for st. helena, 1.3 inches. over 2 inches for kentfield, san francisco, already a half inch of rain

i'm michelle griego. >>> here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. >>> police video shows a suspect getting away from a georgia sheriff's deputy. the suspect was pulled over for speeding. he managed to wrestle himself free from the deputy, get back into his car, and then drive away. the officer took a tumble, suffered a broken toe. the suspect was eventually caught, though, after a high-speed chase. >>> an out-of-control ski lift in the country of georgia sent riders flying through the air on friday. we want to warn you some of this video is a bit disturbing. the malfunctioning ski lift sent chairs crashing into one another as it whipped riders around. others could be seen in the distance jumping off the chairs before they reached the bottom of the lift. at least eight people were hurt. >>> wildfires in australia have destroyed dozens of homes. most of the weekend fires have now been contained, but not before wiping out homes and cutting off power to thousands of people. there have been no reported injuries, but livestock in the path of the fire were killed. >>

good morning, i'm kenny choi. >> i'm michelle griego. time now 6:29. >>> an intense overnight search for an alleged armed suspect is over in san leandro after an officer-involved shooting. kpix 5's jessica flores is live at the scene with the latest on the investigation. jessica? >> reporter: michelle, there was a "shelter in place" overnight. that "shelter in place" where folks here near the bay fair center, it's now over as police continue to search for evidence in this area. they did find one of those suspects during that search. hiding in bushes near the railroad tracks near the bay fair center. this officer-involved shooting happened around 9 p.m. yesterday. fremont police were investigating some burglaries, auto burglaries, in their city of san leandro. they say two suspects were out here casing cars possibly to break into cars at the bay fair center. and when they cornered the suspect, apparently that suspect vehicle rammed into a fremont patrol car. police say that suspect vehicle stopped, two suspects got out and that's when the

i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. >>> an intense overnight search for an armed suspect is over in san leandro after an officer-involved shooting. jessica flores report from the scene. >> reporter: good morning, michelle. still an active crime scene here as police try to search for some of that evidence and we're just across from the bay fair mall here in san leandro. it happened behind the arco station. that's where they found that second suspect hiding out in bushes near the railroad tracks here across the street from the bay fair mall. fremont police were following up on a burglary ring out of their city and said two suspects came to the mall to break into more cars. around 9 p.m., police say the suspect car rammed into a fremont patrol car. police were able to corner that suspect vehicle. it came to a stop and according to police, one of the suspects came out, reached for a gun and officers shot both suspects. one of the suspect got away. one was taken to the hospital. k-9 units searched for the second suspect for several hours and found him hiding in bushes along the railroa

. >> and i'm michelle griego. new at noon, some scary moments on 101 as this crash caused some major delays. the accident happened in the area where 101 meets highway 85. this is the view from chopper 5 according to the chp. the driver of this blue tesla was heading southbound on the freeway when the accident happened. this video on the ground just coming in. you can see the damage, debris scattered all over the highway. and the tesla almost unrecognizable from the front. the tesla hit the dividing wall and caught on fire. there were five cars total involved in the crash. flames could be seen for miles. the driver of the tesla was taken to the hospital with major injuries. no word on other injuries. >>> a deadly crash in santa clara forced road closures near a south bay college this morning. it happened in santa clara between harrison and lafayette streets near santa clara university. that's what's left of the vehicle. the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. no word on what caused this accident. police are as
