joining me now meteorologist michelle grossman who is, of course, tracking this storm. michelle, good day to you. very busy day. very concerning day. tell me how much more this storm could strengthen before making landfall. yesterday category 1 and we were speaking with you about that and then moves to category 4 in 24 hours. >> i know. hi, alex. i know, it exploded overnight. we saw it go from 80 miles per hour up to 150. we are really seeing it strengthen. it's in that perfect environment and swimming over waters of 90 degrees. some of the warmest waters on the planet. you don't need to be a meteorologist and look at this image and know it is a very dangerous storm and could pea catastrophic. look at that red coloring. the high clouds. the strong thunderstorms of ida also the well defined eye. this is a really crucial time in the next five to six hours before it makes landfall and now sort of a wait and see. as we look at satellite and radar. we're looking at radar and the darker colors are the heavier bands of rain and already starting to see the outer bands of rain.

allison barber is in new orleans, vaughn hilliard is in fair hope, alabama and also michelle grossman if i have to cut you off for the president. obviously power seems to be the biggest need down there. what are we hearing about when folks might get some electricity back? >> yeah, we got a pretty promising update. this is a charging station for many people. this is kind of the only option they have is hoping to find something like this. you think of the ripple effects if you don't have power, if if you don't have any battery on your phone. it's hard to find any sort of age shelter and food resources and we did just get this update. they say that power company say there is potentially two ways to get some power back on in parts of new orleans within 48 hours. one option, by creating their own grid in new orleans with power lines that they say still seem to be in decent shape. or hooking back up to the main grid that runs through the entire country. the company is saying it will take weeks to get power back in the hardest hit area. this could be a really positive potential way out for s

our meteorologist michelle grossman and vanessa webb are watching for us. let's talk about the latest forecast track at this hour. what are you seeing? >> alex, good to see you. we're seeing changes since the last time we talked. we have an advisory coming out at 2:00. now it's a hurricane category 1 and that's what we expect as it enters into new england it will be downgraded back to a tropical storm. right now we're looking at flash flooding and strong winds and power outages. alerts are in place where you see the red, that's your hurricane warning and that really is the message to say get ready, today is the day. that's where the calm before the storm comes from. we're going to start seeing impacts as early as tonight when we're sleeping, into tomorrow. so here is the latest as of the 11:00 advisory. category 1 storm, 75 mile per hour winds, and i don't want you to get too caught up on the winds. it's either going to be a very strong tropical storm or a category 1 storm. either way we'll see the impacts. it's moving north-northeast at 14 miles per hour,
