time to get an update on the forecast now, from nbc meteorologist michelle grossman. so important as we make these holiday plans. >> i know it is. really busy weekend, too. a lot of shower chances. storm chances in the eastern half of the nation. we're going to see slowdowns in the air and on the road. this is a cold front that's going to be the culprit of all the problems. thunderstorms that are dying in the eastern half of the country. you can see all the spots there of green. the darker colors showing where the showers and storms are going to be showing up. this is going to move off to the east. we are looking at likely delays from detroit, st. louis, houston and possible delays in chicago, charlotte, atlanta, orlando, tampa, miami, dallas. a lot of major hubs could see some delays on this friday. now, if you're driving on the roads, we're looking at i-10. along the gulf, we'r story of the day. here's a closer look at your day ahead. cooler weather in the northeast. temperatures in the 60s and 70s in new england. lots of sunshine in boston. as we look towards the s

let's go now to our meteorologist michelle grossman. good morning to you, michelle. you can see ernesto exiting stage right, but boy, that tail is a big one. >> that's rite. we're going to continue to see rough seas because of ernesto. and we're also looking at a chance for some showers, some storms not related to ernesto along the east coast. that's the cold front that really kept ernesto away. we're looking at flooding rains. we saw that last night, and the chance for more flooding rains today. a really steamy south continuing. this is what radar looks like. lots of spots seeing heavy down position lightning throughout portions of the central plains. look at the northeast. we're looking at heavy rain still falling in spots, and that's going to be the story as we go throughout the day. there is the cold front responsible for the chance of showers and storms. and some of these storms are tapping into tropical moisture. so we could see some heavy downpours, continue to see the chance for flash flooding that is today. and then tomorrow staying put. so that continues in

. >>> time now for the weather, and let's go to meteorologist michelle grossman for the forecast. look out there? a lot of rain. >> a lot of rain. we talked about it before we went on air. we had video where we saw roads washed away, people being evacuated. that's happening at this hour. look at this. roads, cars under water because we're seeing tropical downpours. let's look at the radar. we're seeing dark colors, reds, oranges, yellow. this is tropical moisture. it's not due to ernesto. it's cold-moving moisture. we're seeing heavy rain still falling in rhode island, massachusetts. this cold front will take a long time to go through. it's a slow-moving front over the next two days. we're still going to see the chance of showers and storms dropping rain in a short amount of tomb. flash flooding is possible not only today, but also tomorrow. we're looking for a chance for flooding. a slight risk in the blue, a nominal risk in the green color. that's on the grounds where we didn't have a lot of rain. the next is steamy south. we're looking at record highs. temperatures in the triple

for that let's go to meteorologist michelle grossman for the forecast. good morning, michelle.t do you got? >> good morning, ali. great to see you. we were watching some showers and storms on this thursday, and we're going to continue to see some storms on friday as well. this is what we're looking at right now, some storms -- some heavy storms moving through portions of of north dakota into minnesota. you see that heavy rain there where you're seeing the darker colors and also lots of lightening here. this is due to a cold front moving off to the east. as we go through the day we're going to see storms 60 million people at risk and does include minneapolis. look at winds up to 60 miles per hour. could see some hail and also heavy downpours. that's going to lead to the chance of flash flooding. this is the culprit here, a cold front moving to the east. the chance of storms producing pretty damaging winds. flash flooding is a concern from duluth, minneapolis, across to omaha. especially where you see this blue that's where we're looking at the likeliest chance for flash flooding
