marie macdonald. >>> good morning, everyone. it's wednesday, february 17. i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. it is nearly 6:00. and developing at this hour, apple and the fbi are at odds over phone security. the company defying a court order to decode the san bernardino shooters' iphone. kpix 5's keit do is live in cupertino, where apple says it won't change its mind about security software. kiet. >> reporter: yeah, absolutely. apple has publicly defied the order from the fbi by posting a letter to its website from the ceo talking specifically about the case in san bernardino and bringing this whole issue into public debate. after syed farook and his wife shot up a christmas party in december, investigators found farook's iphone inside the vehicle that was damaged in the gun battle with police. the fbi then obtained a court order demanding apple disabled a security feature that would erase the iphone if an incorrect password is entered 10 times. investigators say that phone may reveal why the couple picked the target and if they had any outside help. the fbi wants apple
