i'm michelle miller. people who live along the carolina coast are boarding up and getting out.l hurricane florence is on a collision course with the outer banks and by the time it hits, most likely friday morning, it's expected to be a monster. evacuation orders have been issued for coastal north and south carolina, and schools and government offices there are already closed. meteorologist megan glaros begins our coverage. massive ir waters. may even potentially get close to category 5 status sometime tomorrow. we're likely looking at a landfall along the carolina coast line sometime first half of the day on friday, at least as it stands right now. the track has it riding underneath the big bermuda high, and that's steering it west. there is a little low pressure, though, that's managed to develop down in the caribbean and the gulf of mexico that could potentially steer this and turn it a little bit more on off to the west which would change that track pushing it farther south. and these steering currents are expected to sort of collapse over maybe three, four, five days out. t

(grant) the president of presentation high school in san jose has stepped down... mary miller has faced allegations she did not do enough to prevent sexual abuse at the private all- girls school. she announced her resignation in a statement... where she said quote "the allegations of past sexual abuse continue to be a distraction for the school .... and bring negative attention toward presentation." miller says, she hopes her absence will allow the staff to focus on the success and well- being of students. lawrence karnow: low clouds and fog continued to keep the coastal areas cool today. highs at the coast were only in the 50s and 60s with patchy fog with 70s to 80s inland. tropical storm gordan weakened into a tropical depression today but continued to bring heavy rain to the deep south. we had a few more thunderstorms over the sierra but fog and haze around bay area skies. on the satellite a weak area of high pressure lingers along the west coast but it is getting unusually active in the pacific this early in the season. highs tomorrow will be in the 80s inland with 70s and
