nbc bay area's michelle roberts is in mountainview this evening at the site of this new campus. michelle, a lot of people take sides here. what's the latest? >> reporter: those affected will be the perimeter of themity lot. some are in really good shape. others are dried out and nearly dead. this one is okay. but certainly arborists say because they're not native to this land it would be better off putting in new trees. these redwoods may not be native to mountainview, but neighbors say they feel like home along shoreline boulevard. >> they're immigrants but they're welcome immigrants. >> reporter: soon almost all of these towering redwoods may be ripped out. >> just leave the trees alone. >> reporter: last month, google submitted plans to the city of mountainview for its new state-of-the-art campus on east charleston road. part of that plan involves tearing down 160 trees. many are considered heritage trees due to their age and size. >> but overall in the end, there will be more vegetation in general on the sites. >> reporter: terry blunt with the city of mountainview says the c

minu michelle roberts, nbc bay area news. >>> breaking news to tell you about. an 8-year-old boy we're hearing has been shot in the east bay. nbc bay area's pete suratos just got there. tell us the location where you're at and what you know. >> reporter: we're here at baldwin park. the police won't confirm whether the gunshot victim is an 8 or 9-year-old. they're saying this may be drive by related. the reason we're here at baldwin park, that victim is going to be transported by helicopter to children's hospital in oakland. so that's why you see concord police here. now they're saying this took place on the 2900 block of la salle in concord. the suspect is outstanding at this time. we still don't have any information as far as a description for the suspect. but like i mentioned in just moments you're going to have the helicopter descend here in baldwin park is going to transport that victim. we don't know the injuries at this time. they're going to transport that victim to children's hospital in oakland. of course as we get more information we'll bring it to you

nbc bay area's michelle roberts is at the county jail. michelle i understand the sheriff just released the video. >> reporter: yeah. it was certainly a hectic scene inside. take a look at this video. just released in the last half hour by the sheriff. this happened at about 3:00 this afternoon. it's tough to see but you can see. several people throwing punches, guards and inmates running. at the end of the video a guard uses pepper spray to take someone down. other inmates are lying on the ground. 30 inmates were in this common area at the time. and it looks like about half were involved in the fight. i'm told medical staff is here treating people for some minor injuries. sheriff lori smith installed these cameras just last night. she bought them with her own money after the county said it would take two years and $20 million to get it done. here's what she had to say just a short time ago. >> i'm really glad thought did. it will give us the opportunity to see what actually happened. we'll be able to see who was the aggressor, who was assa
