that we need women in the public for many reasons but starting with young children, we need people who are going to look like us and michelle obama made this point over and over and i am sorry i cannot tell you the photographer but it makes the point beautifully. another point that was incredibly critical in terms of women making their way into the professional law in the 70s was sadly the vietnam war. seats were left open at law school. the law school's wanted tuition money and formal and informal quotas that had existed were quietly dropped and women were admitted. the one thing that i guess i have not included in the slide and i wanted to mention and certainly for those who worked on it is the campaign for the equal rights amendment figures in important overarching ways with respect to changes in women's lives and including the entry of women's lives into professions. it was first introduced in congress in 1923 by alice paul and it was reintroduced by martha griffin's in 1971. a ratification. that was supposed to end and 79 and it was until 82 but we did not succeed in getting a sufficient number of states to ratify it.
