could you tell us about michigan's new law to curb fakes in elections? what are other concerns that you have about ai and election administration? sec. benson: in an election cycle where misinformation will be a tool for deterring people firm participating and legitimizing processes and results we have a responsibility to get out in front of it. what we have done is to enact laws that require disclosure and disclaimers of any political communication created through artificial intelligence and criminalize the use of deepfakes and intentionally misinforming and creating munication's that would intentionally -- intentionally misinform or create misinformation about a particular candidate or issue. creating criminal penalties for that. it is analogous to the federal legislation that senator hawley and klobuchar introduced and it is something that every state needs to do as a first step. the second beyond that is that once you have those legal protections is educating voters what to do and how to report it. we have a misinformation website and hotline in emai

she is not just secretary of state of michigan, but she is our colleague. and a friend of ours for so long. in her role as secretary of state, she is certainly a leader in ensuring elections are secure and accessible, and she of course was tasked with the job overseeing the elections. the last two, 2020 and 2022 elections, saul record turnout -- saw record turnout commend she got -- saul record turnout, and she got the citizens metal. absentee voting was one of those things. she has overseen over 250 audits to ensure the integrity and the accuracy of the elections. as secretary of state she has tried to make sure that not only is it a function of government, but make sure that it is one that functions in a way that serves customers, who of course are citizens of michigan. she has made sure she has had available online services, 160 self-service stations around the state, so many different ways that are innovative, and it is wonderful to make sure she brings our democracy to the people and make it as accessible as possible. so she has this distinguished life
