donald michigan primary. donald -- msnbc news can also project that joe biden will win the michigan democratic primary. joe biden, projected winner of the michigan democratic primary. steve kornacki, as always, his post at the big board. what's the big numbers here? >> you can see, if you've been following the last hour here, the story has been the difference between the polls being open and close in michigan. it is -- i.r.a., dickinson -- together, a combined 0.5 of the -- combined 0.5 of the -- border counties are closed, we can make that projection. but it's been evident, as well, if you've been watching, for the last hour what's been happening here. and one of the things as, more vote has been coming in, it was initially very concentrated right here in southeastern michigan. but more votes from the rural areas, up north, are starting to come. in some of the upper peninsula started to come in, and that haley numbers continuing to take down and down everest as lightly. now, she just over 31 30%, at 31%. and

this is michigan you will either win michigan or lose michigan based on how you act towards us. that's the message they are trying to send i want to go to david chalian right now for a second, just to get an update on the delegate count, because obviously this is at the end of the day a rage it's for delegates, david? >> yes, jake. so we are able to start allocating some of the delegates on the democratic side based on the vote already coming in. so there are 100 delegates at stake tonight in michigan on the democratic side, you see there in the upper right-hand corner joe biden now has 20 seven delegates. we have 90 delegates that are so far unallocated. dean phillips has zero delegates. if you look at delegates to date in the democratic contest, you'll see that joe biden has 118 delegates to dean phillips zero, the magic number, again up in the upper right hand border, 1,968 pledged delegates are needed for joe biden to secure the democratic party's nomination. he's going to do that, folks it's just early in the process and we've got many, many more contest to go. he's at 118.

we're just one hour from the closing of most polls in the michigan primary. with president biden facing the possibility of a significant protest vote over the situation in gaza and nikki haley hoping for something, anything positive with donald trump expected to easily win the republican primary and the nomination. we'll get to all of that shortly. but first, we want to set the stage just a little bit for where things stand when we talk about the republican party. so we begin "the reidout" tonight with the freak show. the weekend was the annual conservative political action conference, cpac, a showcase of just how extreme the once grand old party has become. how extreme, you ask, well, as nbc news is reporting, nazis mingled openly at cpac, spreading anti-semitic conspiracy theories and finding allies. yes, you did hear me say nazis. nbc news noted in previous years, conference organizers have ejected well known nazis and white supremacists such as nick fuentes from cpac. this year, racist conspiracy theorists didn't meet any perceptive resistance at the conf

let's get back to the michigan primary.red thousand democrats voted uncommitted, voting against president biden. grady trimble is in dearborn, michigan. breakdown the applications for the general election? >> reporter: president biden narrowly won michigan in the presidential election in 2020. the implications could be huge. where we are in dearborn is home to michigan's largest arab-american and muslim community in the country's largest muslim population per capita. they cast more than 50% of votes to uncommitted and in the two big college towns in michigan, a lot of protest votes there as well. more than 100,000 votes marking uncommitted in a democratic primary across the state taking away as much as 13% of the total from president biden. many of the folks who selected uncommitted are upset with president biden's stands on the war in gaza. the biden campaign is trying to win back the arab-american community which helped win the state by 150,000 votes in 2020 but these results show it hasn't been enough. there have been 20

why did michigan become so important? among these states , the state of michigan is important for various reasons. well, we know that many states in america are democrats or republicans, among them , some states are in a state of fluctuation, that is, in these states, the democrats or the republicans do not necessarily win, and this happens between these two parties. it makes it very difficult and complicated. it means that a series of states are the traditional vote base of one of these two they are considered a party, but some states are so closely contested that the winner may differ in each election . yes, these are called swing states or purple states. michigan is one of these states, and this is one of the important reasons for its prominence. the state for the democrats is that this state has been a way to predict the results of the general election in 2016. when bernie sanders won over hillary clinton, speculations about trump's victory intensified, and we saw that in 2016 in the state of michigan. michigan trump
