hello, michigan democrats. west michigan is in the house.happening on the west side of the state? we are starting a movement that will not stop. we are ready to go. we flipped this seat in 2022 and we are going to hold it in 2024 and keep going. the work that we are doing here would not be possible without senator stabenow and dan kildee. we owe them a debt of gratitude for the work that they have done. i'm the first woman and mother in west michigan history, you cut a line down the state and include the upper peninsula, to represent this conservative bastion in the united states congress. and i need to echo some of the sentiments of my colleague elissa because you know, we know a thing or two about bringing some bad a-- women to michigan. we know about the women from michigan, right? our incredible governor who is going to be here in a minute. our attorney general who i saw walk in, jocelyn benson our secretary of state, but before those women, even before governor granholm, senator stabenow was out there paving the way for what it looks li

michigan. a little hot, but it is a beautiful state. let me talk a little bit about what we are going to do to take this country back. we are going to take back the white house, restore american manufacturing, a whole country. it will start here in the state of michigan. i love byron center, i have been here just a couple of hours but byron center has been cast aside. a lot of paces in this country have been cast aside by the ruling class. politicians come to places like michigan and say nice things, but crush our industries, offshore our jobs, and undercut american wages with illegal labor. you, my friends have been betrayed. and the people who have been doing the betraying have gotten rich off of this country's decline. it is time to call them out and kick them out of office. michigan. no. the historian john said this is a singular moment in american history. and like you and others, i'm really excited about the future about a new generation of leaders on the democratic side of the aisle to really lead our country forward and i know you're part of that you're part of that new generation some governors you work with as well. what's your thinking about the governors and the democratic governors in particular? well, when you first got elected governor, you were sworn in. you're invited to go to the national governors association meeting. this is a meeting with all the governors across the country, republicans and democrats alike. and the new ones before they're sworn in are they call it the more seasoned governors, call it baby governors school. and so it's when you get to go. and i took that first trip and november of 2018, after i'd gotten elected but not yet sworn in and got to know tim walz from minnesota and tony evers from wisconsin and, j.b. pritzker from illino

and michigan.the past 3.5 years, vice president has worked tirelessly to move our country forward. alongside our great president, joe biden. and that was why they came from new york to do that to michigan. the people who lived in that area, indigenous to the area, they were native americans who had been in michigan for many years. and that's an interesting part of the story that they were able to maintain and to some extent, their ancestral land here they were not all sent off west as some tribes were. so they and when samuel ellen moved to mid-michigan, they dealt with an, encountered and interacted with some of the people who had been here for many years. we didn't have didn't have slavery in michigan in 1860s as existed in the south. so when samuel went off to the front for the first time, he really what slavery was all about. most soldiers, i think it's generally agreed from the north, went to fight to the union to end the rebellion, not to secure the abolition of slavery. although that did become a war aim very quickly after the battle of antietam. when abraham lincoln issued the preliminary emancipation. so again, when did samuel enlist? september of 1863, after the emancipation p

what has the reception been like in michigan?can hear the reception is very enthusiastic. onstage is the chair of the democratic party. there is a fairly large crowd. this incident airport hangar. the airport hangar opens up into an airfield because there is overflow. they will set up some big screens because so many people have signed up to attend. they want to see kamala harris and tim walz. this reflects what we saw in philadelphia and wisconsin. one thing important to note about this crowd is there is a heavy union presence. a lot of members of the united auto workers. the president of uaw is sent to speak tonight. he has endorsed kamala harris. very important in detroit for the democrats in this battleground state. many people are enthusiastic about kamala harris and tim walz. take a listen to what a few people told us. >> she is qualified. overqualified. it is high time we had a female head of state in the usa. we have them in mexico, south america, all over the place. the person that is running against her -- he will remai

joining me now is democratic congresswoman elissa slotkin of michigan.nk you for being here tonight. it is great to have you on the program. i wonder, you know, if you can give us a snapshot of what is happening in terms of the ground game in your state. a few months ago, i think it was march, the republican chairman in the state of michigan, pete hoekstra, said trump had skeletal infrastructure in the state and was ringing alarm bells over it. could you compare the two operations? what have you seen? >> the most important thing that happened when kamala harris rose to the top of the ticket was she announced that afterwards she was going to keep all of the biden staff, all of the biden offices, all of the biden programs. we were worried about here in michigan because we have 200 and staff, dozens of officers. the work is already happening, we've already knocked 400,000 doors in the state of michigan, in a state of 10 million people. we have learned our lessons over the years on having a strong field campaign. we have it. i can't over emphasize the change
