as for micron lots of viewers on this one. when it's great, it's really great. can i also point out, when it's bad, it's really bad. and right now it's really bad. they make flash memory devices and d rams and neither is is that strong. we get the earnings miss from san disk and we know the personal computer business has been the grave yard of tech. some are saying micron is so slow it can't get any more. that's a terrible reason. it shouldn't be important given the market is closed. last month's employment report was strong. there hasn't been a single national strong economic number since the last employment report? isn't that amazing. we've had weak retail sales and home sales and weak industrial production and weak manufacturing. i'm sure some of you want to see a number consistent with the soft numbers i just rattled off because you fear the fed raising rates. let me give you a little head's up. don't feed the fed. fear the prospect from the 2.2 gross domestic product number for the fourth quarter today. there are a ton of industrial companies out there goin

my micron has been a hugely important stock for this market. it was a gigantic home run. micron roared from five bucks, five bucks, in november of 2012 all the way to 36 this past december before collapsing this year. c-gate and western digital are now down 19 and 13% respectively. wow! everything pc-oriented is having a real hard time getting any lift since intel's bad news. hey, same goes for microsoft, where the estimates are too high. that's another stock uniquely linked to personal computers. hewlett-packard, which is also hostage to the pc. these stocks they have been slaughtered. of course, intel gave us two reasons for its shortfall, not just one, the other being currency. and that is a factor with hewlett-packard, but it's also a gigantic problem and an unfolding problem for ibm, which, i don't know if you've noticed, has been in a serious tailspin ever since its analyst meeting last month and warren buffett's endorsement. and the decline has only accelerated since intel's lousy numbers. now, technology is a giant sector in the stock market representing roughly 1

one of the leading stocks to the downside today was micron. there's a massive concern in general about d ram pricing and what samsung had telegraphed to the market when they delayed equipment orders by one or two quarters. have we seen this priced into the stock? because we've seen some pretty severe pullbacks in this area. >> yeah. i think so. now they're going to report next week the pc part of the d-ram business until preannounced, there's some chatter in the far east, some consumer weakness potentially and there's some orders apparently from tsnc, the foundry, that have seen some weakness on the pc side of the equation. so micron could be at the lower end of the range. we're comfortable at our below-consensus view. keep in mind the chip sector is up 25% in the past six months, the stocks, and over the past two years it's up nearly 60%. so investors are nervous. they're going to wait until the earnings season plays out but we're bullish overall in certain areas in the chip space. >> one of your topics is invid i don't know and caught a down

micron and free scale are on the upside. china has had a huge move because they're dropping all sorts of hints that stimulus is coming. over the weekend, the country needed to be vigilant on inflation and deflation rather a slower economic growth. they said they have room to act. dropping all sorts of hints that stimulus is coming. another 2.6%. that's a seven-yier higher. the highest level since march 2008 for the shanghai index. europe's up about 1% right now. there were a lot of economic confidence indexes that were out. they did well. the italian business confidence index, for example was at the highest level since march of 2008 as well. so about 1% move over there. here, the leadership, well we're back. it's an interesting mix, so biotech, which has been the leader all quarter, up. energy, which has been one of the losers down about 2%. that's up. emerging markets have not done well but recently have stabilized. that's the third one. the bank index, that's done fair. that's probably up about 2%. i'd say that's a slight

we're seeing names like micron down by 4.7%. also, take a look at the semis touched by pc's.'ve been talking about this. nvidia losing the license from intel. sometime soon in 2017 or so. again, we're seeing that concern about it and a lot of these other pc-related -- pc exposed chip stocks. that is really pressuring the index today. >> it is. what's interesting too melissa, yesterday, david of goldman sachs came out with a report that basically suggested you want to buy certain sectors that are going to be heavily influenced by buybacks of their own stock. they noted that information technology had the highest perrage weight of buybacks over the last year, and he was effecttively saying if you buy the buybacks you need to buy t. the market seems to be completely ignoring that today. >> well he is basically saying that we're if anything to buy back black-out, right ahead of earnings season because 70% of the s&p 500 reports during this few week period and so we're in the blackout right now. in addition to technology consumer discretionary as well as financials were the sector

micron's weak amsl. taiwan semiconductor already preannounced, that's down a bit. also preannounced, that's down a little bit. entire tech complex is on the weak side. right now, s&p pa500 earnings estimate down 3% for the quarter. probably hit that today. off of the recent highs like semiconductor stocks well off the recent highs, and of course biotech stocks as well. a lot of discussion about the ibb, biotech index. even that one, which got hit pretty hard isn't near the 10% level. now down more than 1%. that would be an 8% decline from the historic high. so the biotech index, ibb, hit an historic high on monday and a lot of people very concerned that now we're in a double territory. but we're only 7% or 8% off of that historic high. so right now, the market fairly stable. we came in close to down 100 on the dow. right now down 70 points. energy the sector that's in the lead. david, back to you. >> thank you, bob pisani. from stocks to bonds. we go to rick santelli at the cme grew in chicago. >> thanks david. two-day chart of tens tells you a lot of information.
