with this western system and another ice storm on the way for parts of the south and into the mid-atlantic and even the northeast. we're looking at snow for the sierra nevada and then we could see a few snow flakes in around around l.a. if you can believe it. this energy is going to combine with that very cold arctic air and then another low pressure that forms across the south and that's going to give us the potential for the next ice storm sunday into monday as we continue to watch this northeast and the mid-atlantic, a wintery mix but again a lot of warm air overriding shallow cold air and with that the potential of freezing rain. we could see a quarter inch to half an inch of ice on the roadways. by monday it will mainly be rain as all of this warm air pushes northward. that's a quickoxpcç look. there is our 32 degree line and we'll look for icing from the carolinas, d.c., jersey and new york. the time line certainly tomorrow and monday watching this area, the south, the mid-atlantic and the northeast carefully. stay off the roads if you live in these areas. >> if you can do it, absolu

this surprisingly strong storm swept across the country, smacking the mid-atlantic region with snow and dangerous deadly ice. the storm slowed traffic and caused numerous accident including a fatal crash on the pennsylvania turnpike. 50 cars were involved in fender benders there. some motorists were stranded for up to seven hours. traffic was snarled from pennsylvania to new jersey. >> the driving today was terrible. it was wet everywhere. my car slipped around the road everywhere. you know, just really bad conditions out there. >> reporter: in philadelphia, nearly 10 inches of snow fell. yesterday's game in philadelphia between the eagles and detroit lions was played in near whiteout conditions. in maryland, a pickup truck slid off the road, and the snowy icy conditions hit new york but is expected to turn to rain later this morning. >> seemed like there was ice, snow, and then ice again. >> reporter: this is the same storm that blanketed the southwest. the massive weather system left icy texas highways almost abandoned. the storm has severely hampered air travel. more than 3,000 fligh

valley and mid-atlantic as we expect ice buildup. storm system seeing heavy snow over the midwest and heavy rain as well on the warm side of this storm system. it's the ice we're concerned with across portions of kentucky, west virginia and virginia. accumulations are expected over the next 12 to 24 hours. d.c. right now getting mainly snow, but it's going to move into that wintry mix over the next several hours. so very nice white house shot, the capital. whiter than usual. it's going to transition as we go throughout the day. i am concerned with the evening commute and tomorrow morning's commute for parts of the northeast. so lets take a look at it. we have winter weather advisories, warnings in the pinks here. we have ice storm watches. also ice storm warnings and freezing rain watches in the morning for parts of north carolina through virginia as well. they just lifted one for tennessee. that's great news. again, it's a dangerous commute. the good thing is, it's a sunday. people don't really need to be on the road. certainly stay

you can see in the mid atlantic just the back edge of this already coming in. so the snow, we've got it in washington. philadelphia is kind of seeing the bull's-eye of the snow. you can see where it's the brightest white color and that's where we're seeing the heaviest of snow. visibility between baltimore and philadelphia is about a quarter of a mile or so. new york city just not moistening up the atmosphere to see the snow begin to fall. a little bit we'll make it move in. >> here's the bit with of no through the mid atlantic, you can see we're going new farther north, and overnight it all becomes a rabemaker, and you can see by tomorrow morning it's just rained around because the temperatures will be in the 40s. unlike the ice storm of dallas and memphis a few days ago this really will be a different animal. washington, d.c., the advisories are posted and it's changing over to sleet and this is the caveat with it all. during the overthe night hours it will go from freezing rain to rain. one to two inches of snow and sleet. philadelphia will see the greatest

we have record-challenging temperatures on the way across portions of the mid-atlantic, and also acrosstheast by the end of the weekend in new york city we could reach 60 degrees. a comfortable day here. we're going to reach a high of 65 in norfolk. these temperatures well above where they should be at this time of the year. the ridge of high-pressure will stay in control and keep it dry and mild across the southeast. but across portions of the central plains, we're looking at a severe outbreak tomorrow given the fact there is going to be a lot of instability in the atmosphere. this sharp contrast between temperatures will create the instability in the atmosphere. and we'll see the chance for damaging winds, large hail, and also the chance for a few isolated tornados. that risk is between portions of texas and portions of louisiana, and just to the west of atlanta. so if you are traveling out there particularly, you are going to need a lot of caution on the roadways. that going roughly through 12:00 in the afternoon, all the way through the evening hours. dell? >>> thank you very much.
