you know, we had storms that were lining up right through the mid-atlantic.had delays there, you know, with all of the production that was going on in wilmington, delaware, over the announcement of kamala harris. thunderstorms were plaguing the region. we have problems once again today. we have more flash flooding concerns. let's get into it. not bad. typically this time of day, the storms are particularly weak and then they'll fire up in the afternoon. that's what's going to happen today. you have norfolk, all the way back to the mtss of north carolina and virginia. yeah, it's going to be isolated heavy downpour this afternoon. some of the rain could be up to 3 inches possible. of course, this is on top of the tropical storm we had last week and numerous other bands of rain we've gone through in the last couple of days too. our friends in the northern plains head up, south dakota, damaging winds and hail threats with some of the strong storms, and then we've got heatwaves developing in the southwest. 63 million people are impacted by this. excessive heat and

the mid-atlantic states through burlington and vermont, now it is in canada. there were gust to 70 miles an hour overland. that was impressive. now, a lot of the prognosticators are putting and near the atlantic, and they think it will increase because it has been very active. whereas in the pacific, there's hardly been anything, especially with the typhoon. and douglas, for the hawaiian islands even, it has been very quite and the pacific. we have low pressure on our coast. that includes wind, 40-50 miles an hour. there has been a 10th of an inch of drizzle, and gusts for 30th you oakland. all the way up to concord and fairfield, it is all onshore. no 70s. 50s and 60s for the temperatures. we are running about five degrees cooler than 24 hours ago. only the half monday is warmer because the fog is rolling in. the situation, the lowest parked itself and hang out for a day or two. once it does, it will kick out and be slow to recover. it would be very cool for this time of year, well below average. probably the coolest day of the week so far. for many it could

all the way out to the mid-atlantic and northeast on the weekend. might not be fully tropical in nature but the remnants of laura. take a look at the wind field. so the hurricane-force winds in orange but in the yellow those are tropical storm-force winds moving all the way into kentucky and tennessee. that's incredible. so that's going to be a problem for downed trees and power lines. heavy rain will be ongoing today and tomorrow for parts of the tennessee, mississippi and ohio river valley. flash flooding in effect where some areas have gotten upwards of 10 inches of rainfall. 2, 4, 6 inches of rain depending where you are on the map here as the center continues to move north and westward and then i will tell you that we do have a wave that's coming off the coast of africa and we have not reached peak season yet. that's september 11th when we hit tropical activity. but it has been very impressive. nana will be the next named storm. i know a lot of people are maybe they dodged a bullet. you have to understand our reporters can't get into those area

that not only is going to affect florida, but head up the coast through the carolinas and the mid-atlantic, even the northeast in the week ahead. here is a look at live doppler 7, our fog is not only along the san mateo coast, it is locally across the bay, it's in the north bay, presently, we're clear in concord and livermore, but there's a look at miami and what is the remnants of what was a hurricane, now a tropical storm. you can see the outer rain bands affecting florida, this is at 65 miles an hour, the wind gusts to 75 miles an hour and it continues to just lash the east coast here. as it continues to move up we have warm waters here so it's going to stay off the coast with winds of 65 miles an hour, but look at it through northern georgia, the carolinas, the mid-atlantic, all the way up to the northeast, with winds of 45 miles an hour as we get to tuesday, so this has got a long ways to go. it kind of wants to move closer inland as we get to say perhaps the south carolina/north carolina border. so if you're heading to the east coast, you will probably be impacted by this, and lookin

by saturday, into the mid-atlantic and by sunday it's offshore. as it exits the coast, maybe winds blowing at 35 miles per hour. somewhere off of cape cod, it grows again, up to 45 mile per hour winds. it's not super dangerous at 45 mile per hour winds. but it's a testament to how warm the waters have been this year. it's actually exiting the mid-atlantic and growing stronger as it moves to the north. water temperatures are running around 80 degrees that far north. that's the way we see it here as of right now. i'll get you more information in an hour or so. why don't i toss it back to you guys. >> lonnie, thank you very much. gayle and anthony, i want to make a note about my neighbors in the hotel, employees of the oil and gas industry. this coastline, this area of the gulf is the heart of that industry. refineries behind me, including one chemical plant here to the right that is smoking tremendously, we made a call about that plant and we were told that that is normal. it's certainly significant. one of the jobs of the folks that stayed at this

isaias overnight the storm made land fall in north carolina as a category 1 hurricane and the mid-atlantics morning with dangerous winds and storm surge. the storm knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of customers and triggering fires and tornadoes. at least one person was killed when a tornado ripped through a neighborhood in north carolina. take a look at this drone video showing the aftermath in north carolina's oak island that's a beach town, now seemingly covered in sand. isaias has been downgraded back to a tropical storm but it remains a threat to big population centers of the northeast. including new york tristate area. and it's also the reason i'm in the anchor chair right now, because brian and nicolle's home cameras are knocked off the air. let's check out more on the path of this storm. happy to have him with us, meteorologist bill karins. how fast is this tropical storm moving? >> chris, it will weaken from here out, by tonight into tomorrow morning it's through northern canada not even a storm we're going to track anymore. the saving grace with this storm it was actual

arkansas and you can see right along say the mississippi river and eventually heading off toward the mid-atlantic. so we'll talk to jobina more about what they experience there during the overnight hours. here is a look at our forecast, you can see temperatures pretty much average to a little below average. a little cooler this morning and there is some drizzle. and smoke at any time could be unhealthy in your neighborhoods. >> thank you, mike. and i'm also tracking hurricane laura. the catastrophic storm made landfall overnight in southwestern louisiana and bringing with it torrential rains as well. this is at the texas coast in the storm zone right now, the hurrica weakened to a category 2 storm. there is extensive damage coming in. and laura hit the gulf coast as a category 4 st violently shook the buildings, cars toppled over, and that is just how powerful the storm really was. nearly 300,000 homes and businesses in the region are without power. residents are being warned that there have threatening storm surge is about to happen. >> this is dangerous, dangerous storm surge. and in some cases

because it's still continues into arkansas, the mississippi valley, then we have portions of the mid-atlantic going into the weekend. even areas of the northeast are going to be seeing parts of this tropical system. it even has potential to go back into the atlantic and then recharge that's far out but we're going to be watching that. so again, the storm surge, the flooding threat is going to be the issue. now, on top of the storm surge is the rain we're talking about. some areas locally could get up to 15 inches that's on top of the surge so for all of these areas from lake arthur to lafayette, this is just a copious amount of moisture that is going to be impacting this area. the storm surge will stretch up 30 to 40 miles across this area and i also think we're going to start to see flooding this afternoon into this evening for little rock. you know, you guys, what's really devastating about this storm system, even though it is the strongest we've ever seen, i mean, we are continuing to see the backside of the storm impacting cameron, louisiana so first you had the center, the first eye wall
