this midday. hundreds of protesters blocked traffic outside the theater where the republican presidential debate was held in detroit. you can see them holding signs and chanting "flint lives matter" and "dump trump." people in the crowd said -- they want politicians to pay attention to the flint water crisis and civil rights issues. protesters came from a few different organizations, like the national action network, and the fight for 15. that group wants presidential candidates to support the fight for a 15-dollar hourly wage and the right to unionize. police officers were on scene but they didn't intervene because the protest stayed peaceful. lawmakers in richmond will consider a bill that could keep bicyclists safer. the new law would fine drivers who fling open their doors and hurt people riding by. lawmakers say people would pay a 50-dollar fine if they open a door "when it's not reasonably safe to do so." the virginia senate passed the bill last month, and it's now facing a vote in the house

he's in jail this midday. wesley hadsell needs a new lawyer. a judge was supposed to sentence him this guilty to a federal weapons charge. a judge granted his attorney's request to withdraw from the case because of a conflict of interest. according to court documents, his federal public defender represents another person's interests that go against hadsell's. specifically this person could become a potential witness against hadsell if he is prosecuted of a crime in his adoptive daughter's case. police found aj hadsell's remains last year, after she was missing for a few weeks. a war of words between the city of norfolk and a candidate for mayor. the city says sheriff bob mccabe's claims that the police department is underfunded, is not true. sheriff mccabe says the city isn't filling vacancies to save money. city spokeswoman lori crouch said its because officers are moving or retiring, and not because of lack of money. sot - sheriff bob mccabe, norfolk mayoral candidate - clip 1 6:25:07 we need to make sure we fully find our police department 6
