that accident happened on old middletown road. that's where stephanie ramirez joins us. >> reporter: old middletown road is this back country road here just beyond the downhill area over there where the accident happened with the victim's uncle telling us 17- year-old clair knight was on her way to school. she had plans to attend towson university, kept a high gpa and was fluent in sign language. her uncle dean knight also said she sang. >> she really as a parent you'd go i want a kid like this and that's clair. clair was special. >> reporter: the whole family devastated. 17-year-old clair knight is the victim who died in this morning's school bus accident in middletown, frederick county. knight was on her way to school early this morning when the bus was on its way to pick up middle school students with one student already on board. the bus driver and student involved only received minor injuries, but knight died on scene. >> middletown is a small tight knit community. >> reporter: grief counselors were immediately on hand today

northbound on old middletown road, the school bus southbound. when for some reason miss knight's car crossed the double yellow lines and hit the school bus head on. aboard the bus, a driver and one middle school student. the driver suffered minor injuries, the student was uninjured but taken to the hospital for a check out. claire knight did not have a chance to survive. there was a terribly violent collision. just a little while ago we had an opportunity to speak to one of her relatives, an uncle to came here to the scene. he says this was a young woman who was literally on her way in life. >> claire was a very special girl that's for sure. she wanted to be a sign language teacher, and she was headed to towson and she was just the light of everybody's life in the family. >> mentioned the family. this is a large family. a lot of people out here know each other. it's a small town. we had an opportunity to spend a few moments at middletown high school as we continue to work this story, coming up at 5:00 we'll tell you more of what went on there to
