midlands law enforcement. jack kuenzie joins us live from the scene at the byron road apartments. charles---authorities say it began here in this parking lot----with the suspect being confronted by the u-s marshal's service, columbia p-d and sled. force trying to serve an arrest warrant on this still-unnamed suspect who was wanted in houston. the incident began to unfold as three unmarked vehicles carrying the officers and agents drove into the parking lot---with the fugitive in or near a reddish suv. they say he opened fire on them and they returned it---with at least a dozen or more rounds fired in several directions. none of the officers hit---but the suspect hit multiple times---the windshield of that vehicle he was in struck by at least eight rounds. crime scene investigators have been here since the suspect was taken away in an ambulance---and they've been collecting and marking evidence and measuring distances, determining trajectories of the rounds fired. the gathering of evidence and the securing of the area around the parking lot has been, like the fugitive task force that caught up with this murder suspect--a collaborative e
