midtown manhattan is completely frozen. not just this area, but this is a major intersection. you can get a sense of what is unfolding in the very heart of new york city on a beautiful thursday afternoon. an area that would normally be teeming with people to enjoy the nice weather. tourists as well as new yorkers has now come to a grinding halt. the pedestrians on now behind the police barriers. now i'm getting an updated figure on the number of people who are injured. now we are told that figure has been put at 12 people. 12 people injured, one person confirmed dead. no information at this hour about the driver of this vehicle. we are told he is in custody. no mention of his identity or where he has now been taken. was he possibly injured when this car hit the steel pole and finally came to rest? it we heard one of the witnesses say that a bicyclist was arrested and taken away. we are being told that the area we are -- we're being told we have to leave this area because the vehicle, they're trying to figure out this area safe. now they're moving back to media and the public.
