let's start with those tornados slammed the midwest and the plains overnight. the national weather service says there were 121 reports of possible tornado touchdowns across four states. in the northwestern oklahoma town of woodward, five people were killed two children. in kansas, 100 tornadoes between last night and this morning causing extensive damage there were no reports of any death he is. twisters also caused massive damage in twist iowa in the town of thurman. three out of every four homes were damaged or destroyed. more severe weather expected across the midwest with dangerous conditions affecting wisconsin, minnesota and iowa. we are joined on the phone by alan riffle, from oklahoma. i understand that you did suffer five casualties overnight. what more can you tell us about the state of your town right now. >> door to doors and seeking unaccounted people, we believe everyone has been accounted for at this point. we know that there have been 89 homes destroyed and 13 businesses have been lost. these are not counting those been damaged. not completely d

jacqui, how concerned are you about now, tonight, early tomorrow morning, midwest and upper midwest?ys concerned whenever there's a threat of tornadoes. but today will be reduced compared to yesterday, in terms of the number of tornadoes, and in terms of the area being impacted by the worst of the conditions. so we have a tornado watch that was just issued, literally a minute ago, by the storm prediction center for much of southern minnesota, extreme northern iowa and west central parts of wisconsin. this includes the twin cities minneapolis-st. paul, and man cato, down to rochester, wynonna, lacrosse, wisconsin, and down into mason city, iowa. that will be in effect until 11:00 tonight. we'll watch for thunderstorms to be developing that could start rotating. there's a lot of spin with this storm. much of the energy with it is going to stay to the north. that said, we still have a rift across parts of missouri and arkansas. we've got a line associated with a cold front producing strong thunderstorms with winds at times in excess of 60 miles per hour. isolated tornadoes are expected

just as forecasters feared, a spring of tornadoes in the midwest has left at least five people dead inklahoma. 29 others are injured as search crews continue to look for victims. this is new video this morning from northwestern oklahoma in the town of woodward where those deaths occurred. the twister touched down just after midnight, destroying homes and businesses. woodward's mayor said warning sirens may not have sounded this time, even though they did work during storms yesterday afternoon. in western iowa authorities say 75% of the small town of. thurman is destroyed from tornadoes that hit yesterday. we have more. >> this is exactly what forecasters feared, a funnel cloud bearing down on oklahoma. one of dozens of tornadoes reported to have touched down across a wide swath of the midwest. 11 states are under threat for severe weather. oklahoma, kansas and nebraska at any risk for tornadoes it. today is the big one you train for, you ramp up for, and you want all hands on deck. >> forecasters have been at it for hours trying to determine the greatest areas of danger. >> three inch

a tornado outbreak in the midwest.eally getting hit today, because there were two earlier and now again there's trouble. >> that's right. a tornado warning in effect for salina. this is different than the wichita storms. a large tornado has been confirmed near marquette, moving northeast and heading towards salina. let's show you the video from earlier today, a couple hours ago, where there was a large stovepipe tornado heading towards salina. there you can see some of the debris kicking up. thankfully with that tornado it stayed in a rural area and there was little damage. but it was a quarter mile wide at times and a scary situation for a lot of those folks. we have another storm heading into that area and folks in salina need to be taking cover. a new statement just sent to me here from our producer. this is from mcpherson county in central kansas. confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado moving northeast at 55 miles per hour. and they're using that strong wording again that i was talking about, don, saying m
