. >> cnn's miguel marquez is in idaho. how confident are authorities there they will be able to find the pair? >> reporter: well, we will find out more. there's a press conference in a couple hours here that we expect to find out exactly how they're going to unfold this search today, and today really is the day that it starts in earnest. they have been able to get enough law enforcement around this large area of wilderness so they can keep tabs on who is coming and going on roads, paved or unpaved roads on it. but today they get all of those sort of heavily armed search and rescuers who will go in, helicopter, on horseback, and in 4 x 4 vehicles into specific areas that they believe that these two individuals could have gotten to in the time between when that horseback rider spotted them on wednesday and today. so we're talking 48 -- about 60 hours at this point in between those two points in time. so they could have made some substantial progress from the time that that horseback rider saw them. brianna? >> miguel marquez

i want to go to miguel marquez in cascade, idaho. he's been following this search for us here on cnn. miguel, the news is is that james dimaggio is dead and hannah is still alive. what are you hearing where you are? >> yeah, the news is stunning. this has happened so fast. they ramped up so quickly here in the wilderness area outside of cascade. we know there were a lot of helicopters, planes in the air. one thing they were finding, there were big fires in the area so there was a lot of smoke. it wasn't very clear that they were able to get a very good picture of what was going on on the ground. they knew how far they moved from the time the car had been dropped off, to the time that that person on horseback saw them. and then they knew that there was another 48, perhaps, 60 hours from that sighting to the point where they were on friday. they rushed everybody they could in here. to see those fbi agents and s.w.a.t. teams going in here in helicopters, it looked like a war zone here in idaho. they swarmed in here so quickly. clearly th

let me go straight to miguel marquez who is in los angeles. miguel, tell me what you know. >> reporter: we know that authorities are rushing -- of several different agencies are rushing to this area of idaho. the nearest town to it is cascade, idaho. in the river of no return wilderness area. they stress that this is a very, very rough area. that the car matches the description, but they have not seen the license plate yet or they won't confirm the license plate yet. they won't also tell me what shape the car is in. they say they are rushing law enforcement up to the area to get people at every known egress and access to the area so that if mr. dimaggio, hannah anderson or ethan anderson are in that area, that they will hopefully find them and apprehend mr. dimaggio and, perhaps, bring this to a happy conclusion, at least for hannah anderson. but the strongest indication so far in this case that a positive information has been made on that car, authorities will certainly be approaching it very, very carefully. because they're concerned about po

we want to go right to cnn's miguel marquez in cascade, idaho. miguel, i know you're beginning to learn details of this rescue operation that was a week in the making. give us a sense of the last couple of hours of how they got to hannah and what played out with her kidnapper? >> reporter: yeah. part of this may have been luck, but we create our own luck. agents in a plane picked up the pair near the lake where the horseback rider had seen them some days before. hours after that they moved in by helicopter and they dropped off agents of this hostage rescue team about two hours' walk from the camp because they didn't want to give a head's up that they were on their way. they surrounded their camp and it is unclear how long they waited, but it must have been some time. they waited until hannah and mr. dimaggio were separated. they confronted him, took him out and got hannah out of there. candy? >> so tell me how hannah is doing now. what do we know about her? >> reporter: we know physically at least from officials here this she is doing fine. they s

our miguel marquez is on his way to san diego. he's joining us now by the phone. can you tell us about this and, obviously, there's tremendous concern for these two children. >> yeah, very high alerts across the entire area here. the area where this happened is actually boulevard, california, which is about 60 miles southeast of san diego, right near the mexican border. the closest mexican town there is mexicali. it is a concern that this individual may be trying to get over the border, into mexico, or into canada, according to police. police still have a crime scene outside the house, but they believe that they'll be relinquishing that fairly soon. and they are quite sure that the individual, the woman inside the house was killed before the garage set on fire and then they found this young person. they're not saying how old that person is, in the house, and whether or not it's a boy or a girl, but they know that it is a child that was found in the house, dead along with the dog and the two others, these two kids, a 16-year-old and an 8-year-old are now with this m
