>> miguel marquez for us in south carolina. miguel, thank you. so many places affected by ian. we want to go back to central florida now, to orlando, which has seen widespread historic flooding and many, many water rescues. cnn's ryan young is there for us now. ryan, what are you seeing there tonight? >> reporter: john, the rain may be gone, the storm may be gone, but the devastation is still sitting here. you can see all that water right there alongside this road. that is the front of the neighborhood. there are no cones blocking this neighborhood off. today we saw residents going into their own neighborhood to help each other because there are still people who decided to live back there. and the only reason this is lit up right now because we're standing here. i want to shut our lights off to give you an idea how dark it is out here. you have people who decided to stay back there on their own, flooded water above their mailboxes, all their cars flooded out, and they are still there because they do not want it leave their belongings. yesterday the rescue operations ended, but

cnn meteorologist britley ritz is monitoring ian's track northward, but let's start with miguel marquezho's live in myrtle beach. miguel t storm just moving through there, what does it look like this morning? >> reporter: gorgeous. i mean it is always tough to go through these storms when there's so many unknowns and so much fear. you guys can go through, if you'd like. but it's a spectacular morning on the beach, people beachcombing, doing their normal thing. south carolina took their cue from florida and they took it very seriously. there was a ton of rain, water coming down not only in the form of rain, but also from the tide that came in at the same time the storm surge was coming in. that storm, even though it was a category 1, it hung off the coast for so long, it just lashed the coast for a long time. those two piers you talked about, those are substantial structures, these fishes piers they have in these communities, they've had for decades that people fish off of and hang out on and keep records of the fish that they catch there. so they -- those were -- in one case on pawleys

but miguel marquez is live in myrtle beach. guel, the storm just passing through they're not long ago. what does it look like right now? what conditions are you in right now? >> reporter: it is always a shock to go through those storms and to see such devastation and how horrendous they can be. and how fearful they are. and then the sun comes out the next day and it's a perfectly gorgeous day like we're seeing here in myrtle beach. but this is a lot of stuff that they're dealing with here. the beach erosion is really bad along the south carolina coast. still a lot of people without power here. there are a lot of trees down. the rain, the water. not only coming from the sky in the form of rain but also the tide and that storm surge all at the same time is what they were most concerned with here. the mayor of north myrtle beach here, sort of explained, why the storm, even though it was a only a category 1, why this storm was just so difficult. >> i don't think that we expecting it to come in as close to the north myrtle beach area

cnn's miguel marquez is on south carolina's polly's island and filed this report. >> reporter: this wasier that had been here for many, many years, sort of beloved in the community. lots of fish caught off this pier. we can show you the remnants now. you can see part of the pier still, but it's too dark to show you. but we can show you a bit of what's left of this pier. look, it's a pile of rubble but what's important to keep in mind this came on as a category 1 just south of here it made landfall. and it just pummelled the coastline here. not just this pier but the dunes along the coast here, and then pushing tons of debris back into the town as well and further inland. just a massive amount of debris was pushed in destroying this pier along the way. amazingly no one was injured, no one was killed in this area that we have heard of so far. there were several rescues that were done. no one injured, no one killed, which is great. because of what happened in florida, because it was so bad in florida people really paid attention here. there were no mass evacuations here. there were no evac

miguel marquez is live in new york with the details. what are the plans for the national guard? going to try to help the city deal with this sprawling system of shelters that they've had to set up over the last few months to deal with the number of immigrants coming into the city. they'll be doing everything from providing food, transportation, doing sort of the basics around these shelters. remember, they've opened dozens of shelters across new york city, all in different boroughs, basically hotels transferred into shelters for the migrants, many who have come here with zero, not knowing anybody in the city, with families as well. so it's a difficult migrant wave for the city to absorb. the one thing they went be doing is security or case manager says dhs. >> how much of this is a ramping up of the migrant crisis in new york city? >> reporter: they're not giving a lot of details but it sounds like this is an attempt to give the department of homeless services in new york city a break. they've been taking the brunt of this for months now and it's difficult to coordinate across t
