miguel martinez-valle reporting live in parkland, florida. we'll see you again in about an hour. >> there's been 18 school shootings this year including this one at lincoln high just two weeks ago. today president trump offered words of comfort, but he didn't mention gun safety laws or policy changes in the wake of the school slaughter. >> we are committed to working with state and local leaders to secure our schools and tackle the issue of mental health. >> the president's remark this is morning were a stark contrast from the news coverage that local officials held just before he went on the air. where they demanded action on the issue. >> how do we make sure that individuals with mental illness do not not touch a gun. we need to have a real conversation. >> we sent lauren mayk to capitol hill to find out what, if any, action our local lawmakers are taking today to prevent this from happening today. what have you found out? >> jim, there are no specific proposals that they are talking about. we came here because we wanted to know what they a

i'm miguel martinez-valle, nbc 10 news. >>> turning to your first alert forecast, sun and then storms. pretty nice tuesday for your evening commute here in south philadelphia. but the storms are on the horizon for the start of march. >> meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is joining us live to time out the storms. it is coming in like a lion. >> as soon as we start march on thursday, we have another storm headed this way. no sign of one right now. we have nothing but blue skies out there. puch of the area that was in easton. the flag, e though, that's the result of a southwest wind. it's warming us up ahead of this next storm. and it's still quite a ways away. but the area u of rain issing. the intensity is growing. and it's moving in this direction. and there's nothing to stop it. 52 degrees right now in philadelphia. we're starting to fall into the 40s in some areas. but that's still kind of mild for this time of the year. as we go through the night tonight, not all that cold. the average low is 30 in philadelphia. so we're way above average. that's going to continue tomorrow.

nbc 10's miguel martinez-valle is live in upper darby. you've been looking at how to get to the parade and how to get out when it's over. we'll have a lot of people headed to the same place at the very same time. >> reporter: that's true. so you'll have to pack your patience tomorrow. tens of thousands of people will be using some kind of public transit to get to the parade. here in upper darby, the metered parking is going to be free tomorrow. that's only if you find a spot. >> you'll have to plan your parade venture just like you'd plan a trip. it's going to be an all-day rush hour. >> reporter: to get to the parade, patience and planning are key. if you have an independence regional day pass, no, it's first come, first serve. be early. >> there's like a train at 6:21. you have to be here at like 4:30 or 5:00. >> if not try the market, frankfurt or broad street lines. they'll be packed but run more freque frequently, carry more people and they're free. with road closures in the city, ride sharing can only get you so close to the route.

miguel martinez-valle is joining us. this group is on a mission. >> reporter: that's right. all together the dreamers and allies will march 215 miles. they topped in front of the liberty bill and were telling us their stories. they march for their families and won't stop fighting until congress passes a clean dream act. it would give them more than 2 million undocumented people a permanent solution without putting their families at added risk for deportation. >> my feet are ache asking full of blisters. >> reporter: the journey from new york is is difficult. but they are not deterred. >> i'm not thinking about the pain. my parents made a lot of sacrifices. >> reporter: they are demanding a clean dream act for herself and her community. a permanent solution to keep 2.1 million people here without putting their families at risk for deportation. >> i don't want my son to grow up with fear. >> she joins about a dozen dreamers using the promise of a better life as fuel for the long road ahead. >> i'm marching because i'm doing it for my community. i'm tired of seeing my community

miguel martinez-valle joins us live with more on the motivation behind this student protest. >> that's right. i spoke to one of the student leaders who organized this protest. he was tell iing me essentially they want a few things. they want answers as to why their teacher was suspended. they want security measures at their school to keep them safe and they want to know what's going to happen to the students that took place in the walkout this morning. >> i don't want to see my cla classmates get shot. >> in order to ensure their safety in high school, today hundreds of cherry hill east students chose to march out. >> they just want to come home at the end of the day. they don't want to be wearing about bullet proof backpacks. >> the shooting has school security ob everyone's minds. a topic that got their history teacher suspended when he brought up concerns. >> it's not going to be the same. we're we're going to keep fighting until e we get him back. >> reporter: following the protest, students were taken into the auditorium where the principal tried to answer some questions. this is

nbc 10's miguel martinez-valle is joining us with this story. >> surveillance video helped police find their suspect. >> reporter: that's exactly right. her job was to check the parking meters and write parking tickets in millborn borough. but she came here to these parking meters to try to empty them for some quick cash. none of this, though, before being caught on those security cameras which led police to her. it's not the crime of the century but it does involve multiple police agencies, theft and some empty parking meters. >> an employee. a parking employee of millborn coming into upper darby and stealing out of at least 20 parking meters. >> reporter: michael chitwood said the person responsible is tiffany blockston. >> to ruin your life for something like that. she's 28 years old. never been arrested, now. >> reporter: she used a stolen key to get into parking meters across town and take the coin boxes. this was caught on security camera by local businesses which led to her arrest. we got a hold of that same surveillance video. you can see the person they say is blockston stoppi

miguel martinez-valle spent the day with the family. >> it's hard to imagine the pain this family is going through. >> absolutely devastating pain. it's what they tell me. a lot of her family say she's going to be deeply missed. police say that she lost control of her van after being shot across the street. the band then ended up crashing right here into that wall. she was the only one that died. other people in the car were injured. she was less than a mile away from her home when two men shot into the van she was driving. just inches away was her twin sister. three children in the back. >> it's undescribable. i never felt this pain before. >> reporter: today loved ones are left dealing with that pain. family members say her sister and their mother are taking it the hardest. >> as a family grieves, they remembered good times with the woman. >> it's nothing but happiness. she always wanted to see people smile. >> they are hoping they catch the man who broke up the family. >> to make everything happen, pray. >> reporter: the family is hoping that police can catch the men who shot the

that's where miguel martinez-valle joins us. >> reporter: according to police, she worked in millburne and stole a key and took the coin box and ran off but not before being caught on camera by that surveillance video. >> my first message is stupidity rules the day. and the second thing is that, thank goodness that we were able to capture people who commit crime on video. more and more cases are solved that way. >> reporter: upper darby police say this surveillance video shows millbourne borough employee tiffany blockston breaking into the meters stealing coin boxes and putting them in her bag, walking away. she used a stolen key to get into parking meters across town and take the coin boxes. this was caught on security camera by local businesses, which led to her arrest. >> so we charged her with theft. >> reporter: police say she hit about 20 meters, got away with about $500 cash but $1500 if you count the price of the coin boxes. shop owner s s in the area say judging from what they're paying for parking, they are surprised she didn't get away with more. >> we always put meters in t
