. >> mike: why is he still there?> i have been asking that question. >> mike: i was against his confirmation. this should seal the deal. >> he was one that was supposed to prevent the financial crisis . where was he? it is interesting about geithner the market went up 500 points had he was announced but before he was confirmed. at least obama didn't appoint bill ayers. >> mike: he couldn't have done any worse. >> and then one of his first public statements on a bail out and i broke the story. the market went down 500 points because he was so uneven and out of his depth. this whole crisis proved . last week, and the reason why, obama is pressuring the state and worrying about a bruising confirmation battle . he's trying to get geithner. >> mike: he could have had a game changer. >> he's not going to do it. >> mike: i am serious someone that the republicans couldn't oppose but sends a real signal. it doesn't change the obama policy a lot. he needs someone to walk the plankk. you have to create a different optic. you hav

see your lexus dealer. >> mike: do value voters still matter?that. tony perkins is head of the family research counsel . someone who knows iowa in and out steve day had the number one talk show . gon national with salem broadcaster. remarkable person who understands iowa. tony, you saw a value's voters candidate michelle bachmann win this race. never backed away from her position on life and marriage and made it a piece of her message. smart strategy? >> if you look how all of the races ended up. ron paul, the last speech in the straw poll talked about the value issues and value of human life and why you have to stand for life . go back to twen years you had one value voters on the ballot and you had pat robertson and today, the ballot is dominated by social conservatives and that shows that the impact of the value's voters on republican politics is growing. it is not diminishing in request about way. >> mike: steve we have the possibility that the value voters think they need to tone it down this time. we need to focus on jobs and the economy.

>> right. >> mike: what does this do for them?this is a continuation of what has been in effect for 30 years, governor. what we're watching right now. no one should lose sight of this. we're talking about the frame work of this deal between reed and boehner and this president, right now, would amount to 1.7 trillion dollars in short-term upfront cuts, 1.4 trillion to follow later by joint committee, if necessary, triggers automatic cuts. the fact is, all of this will affect the national debt and deficits by less than 1/2 of 1% and the real work still lies before us and the ratings agencies, people are worried about that. look, if moody's and s & p down grades the debt of this country, they're going to look like fools because remember, i just told you, the prices of the 10-year note rose last week and we're going to see considerable optimism if the futures are any indications. folks should talk about how to secure our debt instead of wailing about the fools leading this country for some time. we need a new direction and a bright, p

luther king was mike's boyhood hero. he had seen -- phleger as a high school kid, had seen martin marching through the park in 1966, and he had been stunned because he was raised in st. thomas moore parrish, two miles west of st. sabina. he saw king hen as entourage marching through streets and people were shouting and throwing rocks, and they were our own people, kids i knew. he said, i can't believe it. he said, this man, king, was walking totally erect, totally unbothered, seemingly unbothered, and he said what is the strength in that man that he can walk through hell as it were and keep himself together. he was moved by that experience to go and read up on martin luther king and he has been a great fan of his, so he started to teach the people the tactics of defense -- what am i thinking of? nonviolent protest, nonviolent dissent, and it -- the people were beginning to, for the first time, thinking along the lines of what can we do? what can we do, we parrishs? they saw in mike a kind of leader they had never seen be
