this is what happened right after mike flynn got fired. that was so screwed up in so many ways, so many days in this new administration, wow, that's a mess, i can't believe that happened. this thing was so screwed up. at every level. the guys making a supposedly independent investigation making phone calls to reporters. and talking on the sidelines with the white house about what is and isn't going on in their investatanion ving the white house about pr advice about bad press they're getting related to that investigation. what was the actual quote from the deputy director of the fbi there? "i want you to know that the "new york times" story is bs." the biggest way this was messed up, what happened back there in mid-february, the biggest screw-up of all of this was that the "new york times" story wasn't bs at all. "the times" published this report on february 14th. later that night, cnn reported their own version of the story. trump aides were in constant touch with senior russian officials during the campaign. then the "washington post" go

while mike flynn stayed on as national security adviser as if nothing had happened. that got senator al franken of minnesota slightly worked up today. >> and we have mcgahn, doesn't understand what's wrong with this? and then we have spicer the press secretary saying the president was told about this. the president was told about this in late january according to the press secretary. so now he's got a guy who has been the former president said don't hire this guy. he's clearly compromised. he's lied to the vice president, and he keeps him on, and he lets him be in all these classified -- lets him talk with putin. president of the united states and the national security adviser sit in the oval office and discuss this with putin. >> we had known before today that whatever happened with mike flynn, the white house has been telling a story about him that does not add up or make sense. for example, just as one part of this, vice president mike pence, he was the head of the transition when the transition was notified multiple times, including in person twice by flynn's law

one, about mike flynn's judgment as well as his temperament. and that former president -- well, president-elect trump, i should say, at the time, listened. he was also apparently warned about north korea. that's something that has been reported on more broadly. now, i asked the trump white house about this. i spoke to a number of officials here. they're downplaying this conversation, but they're not denying the fact that this conversation occurred. one official made the point that president-elect trump wasn't particularly surprised that then-president obama was warning him about mike flynn given that flynn had been out on the campaign trail making the case against hillary clinton and frankly against the obama white house. another official made the case that the comments about mike flynn seemed to be light-hearted at the time. they didn't seem to, at least from the perspective of president-elect trump, to be based in substance. then yet another official made this point, andrea. if former president obama was so concerned about mike flynn, why did

flynn and the guy who paid mike flynn more than half a million dollars which mike flynn did not disclose on which his security clearance application in washington. this is the money that was paid to flynn that caused him to retroactively register as an agent of a foreign power after he was fired from the white house. the guy that paid flynn that money has his own business history in russia as reported by "politico," reporting at least one financing deal personally approved by vladamir putin. this is an interesting thing about the flynn story, right? that link from the guy who paid flynn to his russian business dealings that personally involve putin, does that mean the money used to pay national security advisor mike flynn might have its origins in russia while russia at that very time was attacking the u.s. election to help trump win? that's the question, people trying to figure out the trump russia story by following the money that's what makes this whole question red hot. that's why this is so important. the prospect when flynn was being paid during the campaign this possibility has be
