mike, show us. >> yeah, so we're taking a look at alibaba here.ressuring this company all of the chinese companies really is probably familiar to most viewers but we should probably go over it one more time just to be sure. we're talking about china's security and regulatory scrutiny on a lot of these companies basically forbidding them from taking on new users, the painful pockets of antitrust penalties is something that has been basically brought into the horizon and we have a lot of potential further restriction that is we could see in addition to those financial penalties and in the case of baba, you know, they have actually been investing in trying to grow their user base and one of the potential down sides of that is that you could actually see ebitda or eps decline year over year those are m soft risks when we look at alibaba this is a company with 40% margins, that's obviously tremendous, we have high anticipated revenue and eps growth of 29%-ish year on year on the top line, more on the bottom line and of course on a relative valuation ba

mike, what do you do here? >> as carted pointed out, and as you just mentioned, the vix has hit a post-pandemic low. so we traded around 14.5 in the vix today. to put things in perspective, the 150-day moving average for the vix at the end of 2019 was over 15, right so that should just give us some context that we are now entering a level of market complacency, at least as it's implied by options premiums looking out 30 days on the s&p 500 that we haven't seen since well before the pandemic a and what's interesting to remember when you have a circumstance like this, that of course there is information contained in that. right now basically those markets are telling you we've been in a low volatility environment and that we should expect one, at least for the near term. if you have a market that you feel is beginning to get extended, if you are identifying the fact that options premium have declined, there are ways you can try to take advantage of that i think one of those ways, if you're invested, is to say may

mike, what's your take, what's the trade? >> yeah. so, you know, it's interesting, carter pointed out a couple of things obviously the fact it has not been basically achieved the pre-pandemic highs i think that's an important point. let's look at the fundamental back drop here i mean, this is a stock that's providing about a 3% dividend yield i think that lends some level of support in the more defensive environment. also, i mean, just take a look at how the company was doing right before the pandemic, the prior year full year revenues in round numbers were about $37 billion that's very close to what we're anticipating for full year this year as we're going to see out of home beverage sales increase for coke and next year the expectation is for full year revenues in the $39 billion range that would be a year over year increase of about 6%. so i think that combined with a little over 24 times earnings which is in line with pepsi but below the mean for the entire peer group suggests that coke is actually a reasonable value when you put

what is your take on mike's trade?yeah, so this is one where at least on the stock itself i'm a little conflicted because from a technical perspective it looks fairly constructive. you have the break out above the 145 level and seen strong performance going into earnings. those are constructive items but when you look at the fundamentals and the business, the hardware business, i expect to be fairly strong with respect to iphone 12 sales but when you look at the higher margin business, app store growth, gaming right now, we're seeing some deceleration on those revenues so that could bring multiples lower here for those reasons, coupled with the fact that the stock is up 25% over the past five months -- i'm so rry, the past five weeks, this means that i think there's fairly limited upside here on this earnings report that's particularly why i like mike's trade the debit spread that he's using is one of the most capital efficient ways to play for directionally to the upside while doing so with the smallest amount of risk

let's bring in mike wilson he has been looking for a 10% to 15% correction in the market mike welcome back, good to see. >> you thanks, scott thanks for having me >> glad you joined us today. jim cramer says the s&p is quote ungetting slammed. why do you think it's not? >> well, look i think the markets have been going through a rolling correction really since march. and that fits the narrative we've been espousing -- it's about the index. look when this happens historically scott when you get the sort of rolling corrections the market always goes after the weakest link first we have seen seen that through the sequential order as we typically do, starting with the very expensive unprofitable companies when rates went up and we've been to some of the reopening stocks now to the pure cyclical stocks. you know, the growth stocks had their correction last year and the beginning of this year and so now all that's left it the index. it reminds me of 2018 where we had the similar conversation talking about the rolling bear market we thought it was more severe because of the end of the cycle.
