mike, your take on this move. >> so, first of all, we own broadcom, so, you know, mike, brian owns itfor his clients, i definitely think it's cheap. 20 times earnings when the q's, the nasdaq is probably trading closer to 30, well under the valuation of names like nvidia, which i should say we also own. what's interesting, this put spread is going to cost about 2.5% of the current stock price, a stock that moves on average closer to 4, 4.5% after earnings, this name is also on a heck of a hot streak coming out of earnings. if you take a look at how broadcom has performed a week after its reported, it has actually been up every one of the last 12 reported quarters. i don't know if it's going to break this time i'm hoping it doesn't, because we own it, if you also own it, i think this put spread might be a good way to protect it. you know, actually, if you don't own it, buying the stock, which we already own, and buying this put spread as a way to play earnings isn't a bad way to go either, i think. >> carter, your reaction? >> on the day of nvidia's great news back three months ago, of

mike, how are you handling it?e stock, j unlike the trade we highlighted, which is unfortunate. options trade, which essentially lost all of its value lost less than the stock did. so for those in the options trade, i don't think there's a lot do here. it's worth about 60 cents. the stock has fallen quite sharply. there was some measure of support i thought around the late june/early july levels, those lows, but it looks like we might be violating that. my thinking on the long equity position we hold, which is a long-term winner, i'll admit we are considering paring that at this point. >> carter, thoughts? we've seen the down move today, but longer term, what does it look like? >> big drop was supposed to be thrust and breakout. which is to say, your premise, whether it's fundamental or technical, event to have a conclusion, and it's the exact opposite, walk away. first loss, best loss. of the 500 stocks in the s&p this was 499 today. not good. >> that's rough if you're holding it long. brian, what are you thinking

mike, i'm told you have a chart of your own. >> it's interesting. we saw some early market weakness when we heard that jerome powell's comments that the inflation fight isn't completely over. then he had relatively positive things to say about other economic indicators. let's talk about the inflation issue first. i thought larry summers had an interesting op-ed where he was saying what he thought jerome powell should say before he said it. and what he was doing was comparing basically the inflation that we've seen over recent years, which we could see here depicted by the blue line versus the period from the late '60s until the early '80s. what you can see is the pattern we have seen for inflation recently has mimicked the one we saw during that early inflationary period, and the declines we saw in inflation more recently, if we mapped that over what we saw that last time didn't necessarily mean the inflation fight was over. there are some other reasons we might think that is the case. for one thing, we're running large fiscal deficits, and those ar

if today's whiplash as your head scratching, mike's laying out the way to hedge your bets mike's got tonight, take it away. >> this has really been an interesting week i don't think i need to tell anybody watching we kind of hit sort of peak bearishness i think for treasuries first of all the credit rating downgrade earlier in the week and since that time we saw the options market on rates, and that is both in the treasury futures market and in things like tlt also hit sort of peak bearishness. we had people talking about things like the soft landing looking at this chart right here, the way to read this is really the price up 5% out of the money calls, relative to 5% out of the pun mutts when that chart is really low you're looking at really bearish sentiment in the treasury market you can see, late 2018 in the taper tantrum there was a lot of bearishness in treasuries. then shortly thereafter early 2020, we had sort of peak bullishness for treasuries as the pandemic was breaking out. then, of course, this week we got very close to actually those levels we saw during the taper tantr

so in addition to the new details about mike pence it's possible we saw a new mike pence yesterday as well when he was asked about this case. i want to play a little bit of what he said about how he was being pushed to overturn the election. >> let's be clear on the point. they didn't ask for a pause. the president specifically asked me and his gaggle of crack pot lawyers asked me to literally reject votes. >> that felt different to me than what mike pence has written or said in interviews. and if that's -- >> it was different than what he's said. >> thank you. >> if that is the mike pence we see on the witness stand as kate said, how much of a difference does that make? >> talking like that on a witness stand he's a heck of a witness. one of the tagsfacts in the indictment. at one point trump said to pence, you're just too honest. and that is a powerful bit of evidence -- >> begging them to put mike pence on the stand. >> pence, if you remember, he wouldn't cooperate with the january 6th committee. but he clearly cooperated and felt he had no choice but to cooperate with the criminal

for example, mike pence's testimony. what else do you see, tim heaphy, knowing that you've been in command at this evidence longer than any of us? >> yeah, lawrence, thank you for the invitation. as i read the indictment, it sounded really familiar. it sounded pretty much like the aged 45-page that we issued. it sounded very similar to vice chair cheney's opening statement in our first hearing in the spring of 2022, where she laid out a multi part intentional plan to prevent the certification at the election and to thwart democracy. there is not a lot of new information, this is a compelling story, and i will leave it to neal and others to put it into historical conduct 's. but the facts have been compelling and out there for a long time. there are some things, as we mentioned, vice president evident testimony about their communication that he had with the president that you have already articulated. that is important. i think pat cipollone as given to information beyond what he told us. i think that there are people who

mike, what do you think? >> okay.e judgment about the underlying stock to others but i will just address the options, and right now 10% out of the money calls expiring in two to three months and those are the calls that you're talking about are about as cheap as they have ever been since options were listed on the stock. if you're inclined to make a bullish bet and you found a level that you want to target options are the way to play it right now. >> we've got time for another one. this one asks, draft kings has had a decent run and announced very good numbers in the event there's some short-term profit taking in what's essentially a bullish case, thoughts on selling short dated august $32 calls, buying longer dated october $35 calls, carter, what do you think >> i mean, what an excellent characterization of the situation, yes, it's been on a great run. it did have good earnings. it popped today but faded. those levels are just right. i think you can hold off on buying the october 35s the august 32s close at buck and
