mike baker joins me, former cia covert operations officer, also the president of diligence llc, a globalntelligence and security firm. good morning mike. what do you think about this? >> well, a, i think it's a bit of a venture into the land of the statement of the obvious by the writer of the op-ed. it's a lovely idea. it's great, you know, capture, don't kill, you know, utilize the information that they've got stored up in their heads. but it presupposes somehow that it's an either/or situation and that's not how intelligence, that's not how the operational world works. you know, you don't sit around and say let's toss a coin and a, now it's an operation to capture this individual or b, we'll just fire a rocket up his tail pipe. you have to deal with the intelligence you've got, and often times, the information that allows us to target someone through a drone strike, it's fleeting intelligence, it's a very short shelf life, and it doesn't give you the other option of saying, you know, let's go in there and try to capture them. you are talking about high threat, very high risk scenarios

mike baker. of where we are, what the president did and where are we in this war on terrorism? >> yeah, as far as spiking the football, i mean, any administration -- democratic or republican -- would have taken advantage of the take-down to some degree. a judicious use of it in a campaign is to be expected. but to me, is the campaign speech in afghanistan, using the strategic partnership agreement as top cover. >> sean: with the assumption that romney wouldn't have been as dynamic? -- >> it started to go seriously downhill at that point. but i think there was a line in his speech i think that was very telling from afghanistan, where he said the war began here and the war will end here. which whoever put that in here, whoever wrote that line should be taken to the woodshed, it's probably one of the most inane comments we are going to hear about this. there is no warrenning in afghanistan. >> sean: i think general mcenerny was right. lieutenant commander, i look at egypt, the middle-east, i look at

and the analysts who are very well plugged in with military leaders are putting quite another as mike baker here in "studio b" did county on this program, just yesterday. and frankly, all of last year. jennifer griffin is working the pentagon angle. i will get to her. jennifer, there is a lot to talk about. how much will the american people learn? >>reporter: what is interesting if the president is there to sign the strategic framework agreement about the status of forces after 2014, what that means is he has come up where and the ambassador ryan crocker deserves much of the credit for this, he has an agreement that will give immunity to any u.s. forces that stay beyond 2014. that means the special operations forces, those teams that are going to stay in afghanistan, they will keep training the 352,000 or so afghan security forces the united states and nato have trained up in the last few years, that's been the goal to get it to 352,000, those forces are going to be covered under a status of forces agreement that will give them immunity. that was the sticking point in iraq and that is what

baker park in frederick. that's where delia goncalves is live this morning. checking on how they're moving in. good morning delia. >> reporter: good morning mike. you know police are sure hoping that the protestors will stay here at baker park because this is the only area where they're permitted to rally in town. and as you think see now that the sun has come out that's a fairly large park and police are hoping there will be plenty of room here for the thousands of protestors who are expected to be here in town. the g-8 summit is being held 20 miles away and the two parks closest to camp david have been closed to the public. the neighboring towns are bracing themselves for huge crowds and police are getting extra help from eight different police agencies throughout maryland including some from some of the local universities. but getting to this day has not been easy. >> most cities that get notified about an event lightning this get two years planning time. we've had actually eight weeks. it's really, really been a hard assignment. a tough assignment. this is unlike anything we've ever seen in frederick county. >> it is a lot of protestors down

protestors. 9news now reporter delia goncalves is at baker park in frederick where they are expected to gather, good morning delia. >> reporter: good morning mikethis is actually where they're permitted to gather so we are hoping that the protestors will rally here at baker park. however there is no word on exactly how many protestors to expect. it could be upwards to thousands. but we can tell you for sure many are already here in town getting a head start. the g-8 summit will be held about 20 milesaway and the two parks have been shut down as a precaution. the towns of thurmont and frederick are getting ready for all this action. the last time a major event was held at camp david was the mideast peace talks during the clinton administration in 2000. before that, jimmy carter in 1978 but of course, the g-8 summit is a much larger event sure to draw thousands of folks here and while some businesses have shut down because of the pocket of unruly protestors others are hoping to cash in on the extra crowds. some diners even planning special menu items. >> which is a blending of all of the flavors of the countries that are inclauded in the g-8. >>

baker. >> reporter: mike, as you mentioned, thousands are expected to watch the celebration tonight.l be on the south end of the bay. some of them you can see they're here on the north side of the bay staking out a prime viewing spot for tonight's celebration. the parking lot has filled up since we got here at 6:00 this morning. in the distance there's people who set up tables and chairs and in that lot across the water, you can see beyond that ladder taking some pictures of the view here, you can see there's campers offer in the distance. some people got to the marin headlands as early as 5:00 this morning, to claim a parking spot there, and camp out until tonight's celebration. golden gate park rangers say this area and all of the public parking lots north of the golden gate bridge will remain open until those lots get too full. once all the designated parking spots fill up, rangers will start to restrict vehicle access in the golden gate national recreation area. that's why some people told us they wanted to get an early start. >> yesterday we drove over to kind of scope it out a
