mike barrett joins us from washington, former intelligence officer for the office of secretary of defensend the currently ceo of dc consulting firm, mike, tomorrow the leader of egypt, which has its own set of problems, is going to meet with hamas leadership. is that the best hope here? >> well, yeah. egypt is going to be the major player here. i think whatever happens here will be a direct result of what happens with egypt. there is quite a few of us who saw the arab spring as creating a lot of turmoil and therefore a reason for concern. and i think this is really now we're seeing the outgrowth of that. you got the muslim brotherhood sending their guy. if he can rein in hamas, then we can probably deescalate this without too much of a lasting conflict. the flip side if they break with israel and violate cord they've had with them for several decades, then this could get really bad really quickly. >> shep: if could. before there, a ground incursion is possible. tomorrow, friday, the holy day clearly in the muslim world, the next day could be a big day. >> it could absolutely. this morning

turkey and israel used to be allies and now to mike barrett, a fresh guest on this program is countriesly.e.o. of the washington, dc, consulting firm. good evening, mike. the turkish people have come out loud and strong. >>guest: it marks a huge turning point. a lot of the coverage is about egypt and camp david and we spoke about that last week. that is a major, major factor but the other thing and this is often not very visible to americans, turkey has had a major shift from being pro eastern to pro eastern. their government is not particularly radical but in terms of relations with israel they are 180 degrees from historically. >>shepard: palestinian citizens, people would live on that, in the gaza strip, and their children, are dying in the middle of this and the israelis say, you elected what mass and the fact all of them did not elect hamas but there are points to be made from both sides. if israel loses the support of most of that part of the world and goes if there in the ground affair we could have a whole new geopolitical world setting up here. >>guest: you are absolutely right a

mike barrett joins me to answer all of these questions that we have related to you right there.f all, what do you think of israel's attack on hamas and the military leader? what you make of all this? >> one of the big things is that are tediously, we have to make sure that people are still serious and strong and not weakened by the fact that obama was reelected. there is an awful lot of reports on the press and people on both sides can read those articles and there was a lot of discussion about how a second term obama administration could behave and how that would open it up for israel to feel like they needed to strike quickly right after the election. so i think that that is probably part of what it is. the other thing is that the israelis have a track record when they find someone they are looking for, they take them out. melissa: where do we go from here? it seems like it has taken the whole thing up a notch. >> and hats. it has gone up several notches. i wasn't too concerned about it, but i figured this would be a classic flare up. over the course of the day, it got more si

barrett 519 now we are following in the upper story. a to alarm fire at the home in new york. the group of workers are working. let us go live with our solo reporter mike the fire is out and the crews are beginning to wrap up their work here. near marion and spruce and work. after the fire broke out after 2:00 a.m. this morning. crews say if people were inside the home when this broke out. one of the family members woke up smelled smoke and called for help. with the assistance of the new work a police department those five managed to get out of the house safely. the home taking the brunt of the fire. you can see beyond the latter inside the front of a home just how much damage the fire cause. you can see the crew is looking at the inside you can see blackballs lot of smoke damage. consider this crews say the fire started to they believe it started in the back of the home. this the front of the home you can see just how much damage by this at this light. no word on what sparked the blaze. investigators are trying to determine what caught the house on fire. crews are poking around on the inside looking for hot spots. making sure this house does not catch
