our law enforcement analyst mike brooks has been following the developments closely. he joins us now. mike, a massive search, but he wasn't that far away. >> no. he was at his mother's house just as the crow flies a little over five miles away. now of course you always go and say, who are the closest people to this person? they had a name and tag number. we're hearing now that it possibly could have been used -- there was cell phone technology, we hear all the cases they use them to track them down. i think they were able to put him in the area. the s.w.a.t. team went to his mother's house, saw his vehicle. apparently when they surrounded the house they saw him insid. they were able to talk him outside. >> does that surprise you? >> nothing surprises me anymore. that says to me apparently he did not want to die. what was the motive? in the statement we made, we don't know. but they found him there, talked him outside. he gave up without incident. >> mike, we don't want people to be scared, but when you think about it, he's the suspect, but a former employee, he went ba

we'll let mike brooks handle both those. this was to mark's original point, mike. what are the odds you're going to get any kind of prints? do we know there were no prints on this syringe inside this gatorade bottle? >> we don't know. the reports that have come back are from the chemistry unit from the fbi lab. i've got the report right here. there are no results back from the latent prints on this particular evidence as of yet. when you send it to the fbi lab in quantico, it goes from one unit, they finish their work, and it goes to another unit. with the chemicals they use, it could destroy evidence already there on that syringe. i doubt if you're going to get any fingerprints on the outside of that bottle. but you could get some off of the syringe. and possibly off the plastic that was inside-open the syringe was inside the plastic bottle. >> we've got to take a break in a minute. items at the anthony home that could help make chloroform? >> they took a number of chemicals, and there are a lot of other things out of the house, have not heard those specifically i

mike brooks on the phone. he is hln law enforcement analyst. again, an expert in these kinds of tragic occurrences. mike, you've been hearing the information as it's come in, drips and drabs the tragic news that these three young women were found dead in a jeep pulled from a pond northwest of their university. what are your thoughts in terms of how this investigation will proceed? >> reporter: well, i can tell you, jane the investigation, they will take a look at everything. it sounds like where you start is going to be this cell phone call. that is the first thing. that's the one known that they have. we know that there was the cell tower was about five miles from campus. now were there any other cell towers that they could possibly triangulate to find out exactly where it was? apparently not. but things that they'll look at. look at all of the woman's phones. and also take a look where all of the women fully, totally inside of the car? there's a number of different scenarios, jane, that i could think of. i don't want to speculate about that no

joining me now to talk about this, hln law enforcement analyst mike brooks. also with us michelle segona, investigative journalist who's been covering this story extensively. michelle let's start with you. we have an arrest. any sign of little shaniya? >> not at this point, mike. i can confirm that i just spoke with investigators about an hour ago, again touching base with them. and they're still out, they're still following up with all the leads. not just been the sleepy hole he will community. but also throughout the town, for that matter. they are bringing in extra reinforcement. extra law enforcement, extra hands on deck to help with this amber alert that is now all across the nation looking for little shaniya. i do want to mention that inside that sleepy hollow community, barbara does also confirm, that was barbara davenport that your audience heard talking a little while ago, there are 98 units inside of there. and investigators had been through pretty much all of them at this point. >> mike brooks, is this surveillance footage, is that the key here? sou

law enforcement analyst mike brooks joins us on the set to talk about where the investigation into shaniya's death heads now. what else needs to happen before murder charges can be filed in this case. >> number one, they're going to have to determine cause of death. the other big thing is prosecutors in leigh and cumberland counties are trying to figure out where was this little girl killed. that's going to say, okay, they have legal jurisdiction over this murder. there's also a possibility because antoinette davis was charged with human trafficking and mcneill charged with federal kidnapping. do federal charges trump the state charges. that remains to be seen. that's what everyone needs to work out. there was human trafficking and who is involved in this? we've seen a video tame of mcneill taking her. he took her from the house and took her to the comfort inn. what else was going non in this hotel? we don't know. these are things they have to hash out right now basically to determine legal jurisdiction. >> let me ask you this. as horrific as this is, her mother is charged with child prostit
