mike rice. and pamela brown has been following this week's fast-moving developments. pamela? >> reporter: it has been a week of fallout on the rutgers university campus. and the video shows mike rice abusing his players, and since then mike rice was fired the following day, and the assistant basketball coach resigned and then we learned that the athletic director, tim pernetti handed his resignation letter over to the president of the university. he said i always tried my best to do what is right and i spent a great deal of time reflecting on the events which led to today. as you know my first instincts when i saw the video was to fire him immediately, and the consensus was that university policy would not justify dismissal. the president of the university held a press conference and he said he supports pernetti's decision to resign and called pernetti a standup guy. when asked about whether he would resign, he said that that decision is up to the board of governors. that's what we had to say. >> i consider resaoeuping every single day when i wake up, because let's be honest,
