chief congressional correspondent mike emanuel joins us, what's the argument for building this facility? >> this could become the east coast chief liquefied natural gas facility. the company is willing to invest to build the plant. steny hoyer represents the cove point area and is a supporter of the facility because he believes it will bring quality jobs with good wages. the company says it will have a huge economic impact. >> huge benefit to maryland and to the local community, $40 million a year in additional taxes, property taxes to the county, huge benefit to maryland in other ways, income taxes, sales taxes, et cetera. big benefit for a large project. >> an environmental assessment from the federal energy regulatory commission is the next hurdle, due to be released may 15th. >> i imagine there's also an argument against the energy project. what is that side? >> that's right. some folks in the vicinity have complained it's the first facility that would be built close to a residential area. and some critics say it would become one of maryland's largest producers of greenhouse gases.
