legacy is sharon if mike hennessey -- is sheriff mike hennessey. make no mistake, there is no filling his shoes. that is impossible. but he is quoted as saying that he wants someone with the versatility to take the sheriff's department to the next era of justice in san francisco, uniting law enforcement skills. why is that? the sheriff's department budget is a drop in the ocean. $161 million in an ocean of money. not enough to reduce the sheriff's department budget. you have to work on the whole criminal system in san francisco. knowing that it is a combined function, that it is one-tenth of that totality. you have to know how to advocate seriously. if the sheriff's department is the primary, ask yourself this statistic. three of the four people that are prosecuted are repeat offenders. i know, we help to allocate that. that is why we need a strong advocate to go to the mayor to show that this is slightly counterintuitive. that i really believe in rehabilitation and elevating the role of the department of share of in a way that augments the police

i served as under share of of san francisco, the second-in- command under mike hennessey. i help him improve our jail programs so that prisoners learned job skills and get treatment. they're not just guaranteed to commit another crime when they are released. i served as chief of investigations in the district attorney's office, helping to lower crime working with the community. i served as the emergency communications director under mayor gavin, bringing many branches of law enforcement together. i served as head of walden house, one of the most respected substance-abuse treatment centers, providing services to the incarcerate informally incarcerated to help rebuild their lives. i served as a member of the california narcotics authority, helping to divert at into treatment. i served as president of the san francisco police department association and as a san francisco police officer, i received two medals of valor for my work on the street. i patrolled just about every corner of san francisco. a safer city requires bringing all of these elements together. i'm proud to have

mike hennessey will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest sheriff's in the history of california. there is only one hennessey. i was honored to be recruited by him two years ago, and i have the honor of working for him for one year. my years of public safety in the community, eight years as a labor leader in law-enforcement, many years later in treatment work, were " in the system under governor davis. that will be what brings me to the office of sheriff. my career has culminated in that. i think that the office of sheriff is a big job at a time when we see the criminal justice system changing before our allies. i think i have the experience, along with the rest of the city family, and in the state of california. >> our third question, goes to you, mr. miyamoto. what do you see the workings relationship between the sheriff's department and the share -- san francisco police department as? >> we have a strong relationship. it has been a part of my career to be part of that relationship as well. as a member of the special response team, this is one of our units in which we interact
