. >>> meteorologist mike hoffman joins us now. i have good news for you young guys. no problem. >> it could have been the weather. >> we have looked at worldwide temperatures in the last couple days. the only two places that have had eight mild winter. everyone else, we are half of degree below normal now. so strange indeed, no question about that. here's the jet stream and we have one more blast of cold air comes through the great lakes. the ohio valley and northeast and that's delivering. this is another quick blast of cold air because all of the state is bottled up in candidate besides an occasional blast into the united states. but you can see as we put this into motion planes flattened out about that. we do see the heads of the trough developing as we head towards next weekend again into the great lakes and northeast. at some period of time i do believe this drop will stay for a while because we are seeing the situation in the north atlantic, the north atlantic oscillation, those are two things that we look at which are going towards the cold face. it just hasn'

. >>> mike hoffman here to look at the weather for the first time in 2012, what happened, did you forgetto order weather? >> its been amazing. almost nothing going on. i do think this may be the calm before the storm. i'm kind of thinking there will be a friday flop to this and we go cold for a while. foul everybody is saying that. there is kind of differing opinions. we will check the 30 day outlook in our next half hour. in the meantime we are look agent the drought monitor and it continues to be dry for the father soup eastern plains. you will notice we have improved areas over kansas, parts of oklahoma, texas as well but the south and southwestern parts of texas much of central and southern georgia continue to be dry in parts of the northern plains dry as well. the good news is we will start with moisture in those drought areas especially in southern texas. we will show you that coming up. there is the jet stream and as we start monday there is that trough. that will cause a lot of moisture, you will notice how to tracks off to the east, merges with the overall trough that digs in to

i'm mike hoffman. this has been a topsy turvy month.irly cold with occasional warm ups. in the south you have been fairly warm with occasional cooldowns. that has been the business as we have moved through this year. as everything continues to move quickly from west to east. we will start with a good trough and as you can see though that doesn't extend to far south. down by the gulf of mexico you are still mild for this time of year. that will move on through new england, bit of a ridge through the great lakes, another trough across the rockies, great lakes and the northeast and in the models showing things flattening out. you notice how the lines were going southward this is very cold air up over southern canada which we didn't have back in december. every time you do get a cold front this is very cold air and that push there suggests we are heading toward a colder weather pattern next weekend and the following week. in the meantime, it's just going to be the same as its been. the storm system moving west to east. very cold in the nort
