i'm mike hydeck. we have more from bruce from the newsroom. what have you learned? >> reporter: mike, another shocking development in a really shocking case. i have been told by a source close to the investigation that deonte carraway, the 22-year- old accused of abusing 12 students at the elementary school in prince george's county had a juvenile record, a juvenile record of ch abuse that he was found guilty, they call it something given in juvenile court, but that he was found guilty of abusing a child at age 13. now, the big question is whether that should have appeared in a criminal background check conducted by the prince george's county schools when he was hired a couple of years ago as a teacher's aide. a paid teacher's aide. he was working just as a volunteer last year before he was a paid teacher's aide. they should have done a criminal back undercheck. the schools insist that that juvenile record would not have come up, that it would only have come up after he had been charged as an adult. but there is some dispute about that, a sworn law enforcement office

i'm mike hydeck. our top story, reston hospital staff had a scary encounter this morning. when a wounded man fired shots into the hospital. nikki burdine talks to the hospital employee who treated him, and sh the investigation. >> we are told reston hospital is now safe and security. for all patients and employees. but this morning, there were scary moments when a man drove up to this entrance and started shooting. >> fairfax county police tell aus 53-year-old man from louden county came to the hospital with a self inflicted gunshot wound but the door to this entrance was locked. that's when police say he fired a shot into the glass door, got inside and fired his weapon again. no one was hit. and security officers were able to subdue the man. and get him treated. >> we were called, all we heard was there is a gunshot wound in the e.r. so you go and you take care of it. >> reporter: it wasn't until after dave smith and a team of doctors and nurses treated him that they heard the whole story. >> once we heard the story, you kind of move on, because you still have other patie
