the guy who knows about this, mike inouye, what are we watching out there? >> we're watching for exactly that. let's point out a few things. first of all the bay bridge backup because the metering lights are on. they approach out of the maze smooth but this formed quickly, holding about with west grand avenue. it's starting to build. we'll look at the maps and show you the vicinity on the approach a smooth drive, northbound 880 at fifth we have the closure still because of that big rig crash. fifth avenue closed until possibly 7:00 a.m. they are working hard to clear that. right here we're talking about the black ice, the chp gives an update, they have the warning for the orinda side of the caldecott tunnel, even fish ranch road, slick conditions and reports of black ice. and we'll show you a smoother drive but a new crash out of the altamont pass into livermore. things lighter at least for the short-term. westbound 580. we'll show you a live look here and we have the north bay as well. this is southbound 101 starting to build around north san pedro road. 11

mike inouye you know, we love him, he deserves a day off once in a while. maybe you have the day off, you have the family home with you. temperatures are going to be comfortable. 40s now but we're headed to the 70s across the bay area. we'll see about 69 in the south bay, 68 in the peninsula and 68 degrees in the east bay today. i have to point out off the bat it is another spare the air day but we're looking toward better air quality into this weekend. let's switch gears now and take a look at the morning drive. overall we're not expecting much as a lot of people have the day off. to the map this is morning, we head throughout the afternoon, temperatures are going to be comfortable, we expect more people to wake up later on this morning and head out and about later today so count on traffic then. right now, it is light. the only thing is 101 northbound, you want to travel cautiously as you approach sierra point parkway a. box is reported in lane 2, so you want to stay to the left through there. and travel cautiously. we're looking pretty good. a look at i-

we'll check with christina loren and mike inouye. let's start with chase cain live in martinez where an overnight water main break could mean icy conditions. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. i heard you guy sas that san frano is the only part of the area not under a freeze warning. i noticed because i live in san francisco and it does feel much warmer there than here in martinez where we are at the freezing mark. that is likely why public works officials say a water main busted last night. check out this video from a few hours ago. late yesterday evening, water was gushing down the avenue here near martinez boulevard. it took a couple hours to get that water turned off and the pipe patched up. that meant there was water in the road. they had to spread stand. further to the south people woke up yesterday in san jose with ice kels from the trees. that was a clear sign of how cold it was as records were broken across the bay area. s in san jose they had to de-ice planes before they took off. back to the north in wine country nap

always on mike inouye's mind as well. good morning. >> yes. you're always on my 0 -- bad way to end the year. looking to the southbound side, 101 shows a smooth drive. light volume. you see the glow to the lights. low clouds around many parts of the bay. traffic and weather together, there is the orange, the north bay, that means a chance for fog in many spots south down 101 through novato, off 37 and down to san rafael where we took a look at the glowing lights. smooth drive across the richmond/san rafael bridge with no. major issues, the east shore freeway moves smoothly. volume around university avenue. speeds toward 58, 57. not a problem down the berkeley curve. the bay bridge toll plaza. we have a build coming off of the berkeley curve and the 880 overcrossing. nothing as far as the backup or problems. easy drive if you pay cash. that's about it for your drive. back to the maps we'll see traffic getting into the city. the bay bridge and the golden gate bridge. 10:30, 11:00, the backup is going to start at the bay bridge toll plaza and int

right now here's your drive with mike inouye. >>> we tell you the what but we also tell you the why or how to get around it and how to keep your head dry. looking to the bay bridge toll plaza, the metering lights are on. we have seen a different pattern today approved through the end of the year. the cash lanes are building up early and now we have all the folks building up. we'll look over to the oakland area as well where we see northbound 880 show a smoother drive than we saw last time. the earlier stalled vehicle there has cleared from the lanes in the northbound side, but the volume, still a good volume up to the oakland coliseum and continuing up to downtown near the toll plaza. no slowing for 880 itself, but the volume will see building coming up over the next 15 minutes. we're looking at the tri-valley, a smooth flow of traffic. no surprises through livermore or 84 heading down to livermore or pleasanton. 680 is moving close to the limit down to the south bay. and look at this, antioch started out typical pattern, but that's a little lighter. again, an odd pattern with the red
