here's mike inouye. >> steady build to the commute. we're on the upclimb and northbound 101, north 87 and in julian we did have a crash but cleared quickly to the shoulder and no injuries reported at all. good flow of traffic throughout the south bay. we did see an early start and things did calm down and the build. over here west 580 not getting away from that. 84 westbound and also 84 in towards livermore and dublin change and these folks starting to slow south from pleasanton and that's for folks heading south into san jose and you'll get the congestion right here in the tri-valley and not so bad into san jose. lower drive for the castro valley wide as well as north 238 and moves smoothly until you get to a fender bender and sounds like everything is off to the shoulder and the distraction and the build as folks are shifting lanes. a nice flow around the rest of the bay. for the most part, the peninsula not really a problem and neither is the bay bridge toll plaza but the metering lights are on. you see the volume of traffic past th

i'm going to try to get mike inouye. i'll tell you that right now. we're looking pretty good as far as the showers go. we've got another round of rain on the way, we're tapping into the atmospheric river, two competing air masses. as a result we get fireworks in the sky. you see this cell, when we talk about looking for thunderstorms, typically pretty small. this guy here with the yellow and a little orange in the middle, that's a pop-up thunderstorm. we head throughout the morning hours, so far a couple lightning strikes but we're expecting more as we head throughout the day today so. the last one i saw was to the south of santa cruz. that was about an hour ago. we'll keep you updated. real time doppler radar gives us an idea of where that lightning is occurring. technology has come a long way. a few showers, count on heavy rain, break out the umbrella, you'll probably use it at least twice with heavy rainfall on the way all the way throughout this afternoon into the evening. so getting in to work and probably as you leave work you need to break out

here's mike inouye and the morning drive. >> good morning. sounds like for the north bay, a chance to catch a little bit of the rain as it's hanging out. bay bridge, lights come over from san francisco on the lower deck towards treasure island. i see them moving smoothly. we don't see interruption on the maps. there was a stall reported around treasure island and cleared from the chp report i see as well. shouldn't be a major problem. westbound, a problem. fas-trak lanes moving smoothly. the wet roads that we saw, puddling and ponding started to clear. as far as the index goes. but still damp roadways and freeway off-ramps. watch the bridges, you might guest a gust or two. your wednesday shaping up to be a typical, average wednesday and it's great stuff. south bay, farther south, guys, road weather index calling out fog and lower visibility in morgan hill and gilroy. >> thank you. >>> in a few hours, santa clara will welcome a brand-new walmart store off highway 101. the store's created nearly 100 jobs. as part of the grand opening, the store

mike inouye. >> this is impressive for folks who don't drive the east bay freeway.his is kind of standard for a friday underneath the silhouette of university avenue overcrossing and a smooth flow of traffic and i'll show you on the map what we're talking about. at the speed limit all the way off the carquinez bridge and towards the berkeley curve area. the issue south of there northbound 880 which still slows past broadway where the two big rigs got into an early morning crash. the right two lanes are blocked and still have three lanes to get by in the northbound direction and right as you're passing by equivalent of 14th all the way towards the downtown area. just stick it out and allow a couple extra minutes and allow five minutes so you can stay calm as you're heading towards the work area because any slow down makes us a little nervous. the south bay moves smoothly, but still following this, as well. the crash southbound and at the off ramp two lanes are blocked as you're making your way to that off ramp and i don't see any slowing. all very light through the s

here's mike inouye and your morning drive. >> over here by the oakland coliseum, as well.ffic flow is very nicely and we have an early strong start for the commute. i'll show you the map. bay bridge toll plaza and metering lights were turned on just before 6:00 and hefty back up but starting to back off a little bit. the slowest drives for the bay right now. nothing really unusual and slower drive for 580 westbound is starting to pick up and the volume builds now and this is heavier volume and more slowing than we saw last week. they're back in session this week in tri valley. southbound 880 all showing a slower drive, as well. as volume continues to build and fremont at stevenson boulevard a crash reported and should move quickly to the shoulder but that is going on and causing some distractions down towards milpitas and rest of your south bay looking good. typical pattern. 101 will give you a live look where the orange zone is there and heading north past 680 and gathering a bit of traffic. and that might cause more slowing as that moves to the shoulder. we'll send it ba
