i'll send it over to mike inouye. >> this the scene from overhead. we see a few tow trucks arriving. she interviewed jordan who saw that crash. two more tow trucks arrived. they were stuck in that backup but they did arrive. they will start to move some of the vehicles. up to maybe a dozen vehicles were involved in the crash, which started off with a big rig and it sounds like an suv. marina boulevard and 238 shut off. they hope to get lanes open but they don't know when they can do that. there's a lot of work to do there. you can use san leandro as your alternate. and there's 580, which will now see the big rigs this morning. that will be a problem for folks heading south and might send folks over the bay bridge. meanwhile, those folks may go down to the san mateo bridge. we dough see the traffic is moving pretty well. >> hurricane o'deal slamming into the coast of baja, california overnight. it's a category 3 hurricane. mexican authorities said more than 30 those folks were told to leave their homes for shelter. how will this affect news the bay ar

mike inouye is keeping an eye on the roadways but let's begin with christina loren. >> good morning, everybody at home. we wanted this rain, it's looking good but this system has some really interesting components. we have a subtropical moisture tap, you can clearly see that. that's moderate to heavy rainfall. for the most part the peninsula is -- i have to tell you, even the south bay with that steady mist and drizzle overnight, we've already accumulated a tenth of an inch of rain. we're not even done yet. we're not to the steady rainfall. as we hod the next this is what we're expecting. i'm focusing on this significant batch right over san mateo. we're going to see the wind pick up after the rain clears out and then a beautiful finish to the day. but look at some of these totals so far. fort bragg, almost an inch and a half. same for pacifica. and berkeley, you're tallying .03. the only thing, it's going to be kind of a rough drive out there. it already is, huh, mike? >> it is. there were some early spinouts as the rain came in and then early reports of flooding. we have water on t

here's mike inouye. >> we're looking at the bay bridge, we didn't even talk about this. we did talk about the lights being turned on shortly and there you go. this is going back past the 880 overcross. it's tuesday. we see that build happening much quicker over here. we're looking at more traffic knocked to 101. this is the other build going on. it's from 680 up to 880. this is the first burst we typically see. again, tuesday sees a heavier volume of traffic. this should light i don't know over the next 20 minutes to half an hour. that will be kicking in full force here. that's sort of the cascade that happens as far as your commute for the south bay. tri-valley, nothing unusual. speeds right around 50 miles an hour. 580 does show that build coming out of the altimont. the san mateo bridge has sorted itself out nicely toward 101. >> the team investigating the crash of malaysia airline flight 17 over ukraine says the crash was likely caused by the plane being hit by multiple projects outside the aircraft. the preliminary report was published today by the dutch safety boar

christina loren is tracking the rain totals and mike inouye is keeping track on the road. stephanie, the rain has already led to some power outages. >> reporter: that's right. right now we have a break in the light drizzle we've had in the last hour or so. you can see the usual backup at the metering lights. chp saying give yourself plenty of time to step on the brakes. take a look at the video in san pablo. fires with pretty strong winds carrying the sparks. this was one reason why nearly 12,000 people were dealing with power outages across the bay area overnight. dust building up on the poles so when the water hits, it can spark a small fire. small outages in pleasanton, livermore. and c.h.p. also warning drivers must be even more careful after they get behind the wheel this morning. >> any time we have the first rain of the season, all that oil is going to percolate up on the roadway, it's going to be a lot slicker. we just ask that people give themselves adequate space between the front of their vehicle and the car ahead of them. >> and we get that same message every t

as promised, mike inouye. >> getting over those temperatures. over here we have a slower-than-average drive but we've come back to your average flow. the concern is where the arrow is. traffic now built up coming into livermore. not an unusual pattern but a little slower for a tuesday. traffic making its way smoothly over to the dublin interchange. look at the rest of your bay. smooth drive. typical slowing. nothing unusual about that pattern. we do have northbound 101. show you the volume starting to sort itself out. the second burst of traffic typically sticks around from 6:30 all the way in to your morning commute. the bay ridge toll plaza had a much stronger build as the metering lights were backed up. folks know once you get into that drive but it keeps the bay bridge from being a mess. >> a looming strike could bring one bay area court system to a halt. >> governor brown has until the end of the day to sign a gun safety member that would allow judges to take away relatives' guns if relatives are deemed to be dangerous. >> 6:15 on your tues

here's mike inouye. >> looking at westbound 92. we did have a burst of traffic hitting there. slowing past the toll plaza. but it has cleared out. looks like good volume of traffic. aingel from the peninsula side. better idea how much traffic going on. we have the ramp up for traffic westbound, headlight off of the high-rise, but eastbound light flow over to the peninsula. 92 smoothly. on the maps 92, san mateo bridge, and 84, dumbarton bridge, no big issues. northbound 101 at peninsula avenue, reports of a car fire, off on the shoulder. but one person reported flims out of the vehicle and said the person in the vehicle was out of it. that's better news as the fire crew arrives we'll watch for slowing. another fire report here, 280 southbound 10th street, off-ramp one lane blocked because of crews taking care of the fire and a tree off to the shoulder. no homes threatened. we'll track that for you. bay bridge toll plaza, a look here, as we see traffic building. the volume, a few cars waiting but no big deal off of the maze. east shore freeway and 24 through the caldecott at sp

first here's your drive, here's mike inouye. >>> you mentioned clouds, we're talking about the cloudnd the silver lining here. let me explain for traffic. the backup got liergt, about half the cash lanes fast track not of a problem. here's the reason why. benefit at the bay bridge toll plaza, let's look in emeryville, there's flashing lights blocking two of the lanes right by golden gate field. all the folks coming down for westbound 80 and off of the san rafael bridge from the san rafael side. they're being held up by the crash block half of your freeway and making berkeley, emeryville, and the bay bridge lighter. >> look at your maps, if you're on the upper east shore, san pablo, richmond, jammed up approaching this merge and golden gate field, then once you pass by albany, you are clear getting over toward that bay bridge. that's a benefit for those folks south of there. reminder over mere in oakland, evening hours are going to get slowing past the coliseum. expect that later on. smooth drive right now across the bay into san francisco. we talked about the fires. one over in missi
