here's that feature with the help of my colleague, mike inouye.ike inouye: beyond the noise of a nearby airport lies this unique plot of land known as the san jose heritage rose garden, a beautiful site tucked away just outside of downtown. "asian pacific america" paid a visit to the garden, where rose curator jill perry showed us around and talked about what makes the san jose rose garden unique. jill perry: we have more varieties than any other public rose garden in the us. we have many classes of roses that are not in other public rose gardens. the old european varieties, the once-blooming varieties, the victorian-era roses are very uncommon throughout the country. mike: the garden contains approximately 2,600 varieties of roses, many of which were brought to the us from china and are found planted throughout the bay area. jill: most of them we found in cemeteries. i think they came with the chinese workers that came to california, and worked in the gold fields, and worked in the cities. mike: the garden is maintained mostly by volunteers. jill

we do know what the traffic impact is and mike inouye is following that for you. >> reporter: that's right. you showed that video from skyranger and it showed the approach to signs, fremont over on the right lanes and harrison over on the left and approaching san francisco. that's right about where all the activity is blocking the left two lanes. over here is our camera from emoryville. you see the traffic jammed up coming out of that treasure island tunnel and yorba linda tunnel as folks make their way around the bend. this is where lanes get all jammed up here coming out of san francisco and it's jamming up and they have really brought them slow. look at the effect of the bridge traffic flow on the sensors. it's jammed up getting past the tunnel itself and backed all the way back into the berkeley curve and approaching on 580 and backing up coming down out of berkeley just as the morning commute was starting to ease and we saw that sensor change and jammed out of the maze over to where two lanes were blocked westbound into san francisco. as you're saying, kris, staying away from th

we want to check in with mike inouye. we have details on that.dge. as you look at the map we're showing the bay bridge in the lower corner there getting over towards the san francisco. folks use that as a reference point for the traffic flow but up here this is have the benicia bridge is. the arrow the at bottom of the screen points north 680 across the site. you see the orange line i've drawn here that is folks being diverted off 680 to 780 westbound getting towards second street which takes you behind the refinery and that is where the wind is blowing in the opposite direction. the wind is blowing the smoke that you saw toward that closed area on 680 and they just want for safety sake i'm sure to keep the drivers from the area. and so that orange route behind the refinery is the one that some folks are taking and getting congested. just as folks are joining with northbound 680. for the folks southbound from the top of your screen starting to jam up heading off of the call da cot junction towards lake herman road. chp is diverting folks past the
