mike murphy is here. jack hough is here. susan li and lauren simonetti.rnings season so far. jack, we are up about 8% compared to last year's profits. will this continue? >> earnings season -- of course earnings are beating estimates. they do every quarter. you got to do this little song and dance where you say are they beating estimates by more than we thought they would beat them by going into this. the answer is yes. so far, so good for earnings. pretty strong quarter. stuart: earnings continue to be strong. yes or no? >> very strong. and certain companies are doing even better than the overall market. so you just had apple on the screen. look what apple has done. they had that pullback three or four months ago. apple is hitting on all cylinders. stuart: we are up 114, 115 points. 27,285. i think there's a couple things baked into this market. a fed rate cut of a quarter point. i think that's baked in. i think boris johnson becoming prime minister, we've got news, will not have a huge effect. i think it's baked in. what is it, jack, that, do you know t

. >>> mike murphy is with us, d.r. barton with us, ashley webster, all together now. bank earnings.e strong bank earnings. couple of stocks are down but i think the earnings are strong and i see retail sales going very sharply. this is a strong economy, isn't it? >> when you look at the banks, they have put up very strong quarters. you can pick out fixed income trading at one bank or pick out investment banking at another bank, but long story short, the banks are doing what they need to do. however, the early stage technology companies are coming in and disrupting the big banks. so they are finding better ways to attract the consumers' dollars right now. venture capital, where i invest, that's a big problem for the big banks and then on the other side, you have the fed talking about taking low interest rates and making them possibly even lower. that's also a head wind for the banks. stuart: got it. now, this strong economy, d.r., i think we've got good signs here of a strong economy, that could mean the fed does not lower interest rates. that's why the market is down this morning. >

1,396 is where it is and the price of oil is $57 per barrel this tuesday morning we're joined by mike murphysusan li and christina partsinevelos. okay, dr, to you first. is this market down so much because investors don't think we're going to get a 50 basis point cut at the end of this month? >> i think it's not just the 50 basis point cut. i think they are starting to get worried we might not get one. the futures traders put it at 93 % chance of getting a quarter of a percent rate cut. here is the thing. we're in an upside down world right now when the fed is leading the narrative. when china trade has been kicked down the road, good news is bad, and bad news is good, so when we had a great employment report, the market goes oh, maybe that'll cause the fed to pull back and we're going to continue to see that play out. chairman powell today, tomorrow, and thursday, will be talking, every word will be parsed. stuart: let me just say this. president trump has been tweet ing on the economy and he did it first thing this morning i'll quote it for you. very good numbers on the economy , much pote
