karina: we are going to bring in mike nicco. because we are talking about air quality and weather conditions. i know you have been tracking this nonstop. especially with this oak fire growing, talk about what you are seeing. mike: i'm seeing a lot of smoke. it's mostly up in the sierra and those firefighters will be dealing with that. i was going to ask if i could what he was seeing as far as the burn scars. is that going to help the former burn that was up there, maybe help slow things down? are the thunderstorms in the forecast, with the rain be enough to help temp and down some of this or is that something you don't count on? jonathan: i don't count on anything. fire that occurred in 2018, there will be some regrowth over those four years but that should not be as much fuel loading as we are seeing with the oak fire conditions so that should help with fire suppression. in reference to the thunderstorms, there are lots of different variables that could happen, but we are hoping for higher rh recoveries over the night associated

joining us is meteorologist mike nicco who will be with us for the whole show. we will look at global arming and the impact from multiple perspectives. glad us to provide insight into what is happening. mike: there is a lot to talk about. london is the big story. how bad was it in the u.k. today? how much worse will it get tomorrow? mike: 98 unofficially today. tomorrow, 102 is what the forecast from their national weather service equivalent, and that would be the hottest temperature ever come of the hottest right now is i think 101.8 set a couple years ago. they are looking at something that is historic and never felt before in i don't know how many centuries the u.k. has been inhabited. this is unprecedented and shocking. kristen: we are looking at scenes from london today. as people try to stay cool, we get temperatures like that in fresno, hotter than that in phoenix. when you have triple digits in london, with them not getting temperatures like these, why does it make it more dangerous? mike: you can equate it to san francisco. how many people in san francis

mike nicco is here with a closer look at the air quality. has anything changed? >> a little bit has changed and more is going to change. here is a look at what we expect to happen in the upper parts of the atmosphere. the orange taking over all of our neighborhoods. the beautiful buse gift -- the beautiful blue sky we expect will come back early tomorrow morning but look at the haze. most of this is above 5000 feet which means it does not reach any of our peaks in the bay area. if you're heading to the sierra, which i would advise not to, at least if you suffer from asthma or any of the smoke related mess being produced, the acrid smoke you can see in the surf during the same time, it is going to sit there and fester and it is going to continue to do that until we stop seeing this thing spread and burned so much. we have clean white clouds, the marine layer up to 2000 feet. 2000 to 5000, you may smell smoke. the air quality should be fine. above 5000 feet the air quality is going to be unhealthy the next couple of days. i am watching some thunderstorms. they almo

mike nicco is watching the air quality very closely and has more on this advisory. how long is this bad air going to stick around? mike: as long as that monsoon flow continues to push wind in the upper levels of the atmosphere toward us, we could have hazy conditions for the foreseeable future. but that's in the upper parts of the atmosphere. take a look at the lower parts as we look back to the east. that looks ready good. air quality is pretty good but head to the high country and you can see it is unhealthy for everybody, no matter what your health staossemite. at night, it will be unhealthy all the way up to tahoe as that smoke will settle into the valleys. for us, everything is green and as we look at the forecast, everything is going to remain green until possibly thursday. that's healthy for all of us. but do we have to thank for this ? the marine layer. it's about 1800 to 2000 feet, which means it tall enough to reach most of the valleys where we live and that is why we have the clean air. if the marine layer goes away, we could be in more trouble, but i don'
