i want to talk more about the white house reaction and ongoing congressional actions with mike quigleyrat from illinois. mr. congressman, thanks for joining us today. >> glad to be here. >> you heard our legal analyst there. you yourself were an attorney, as well. based on what we know from this memo, does it constitute obstruction of justice by president? >> i think that when you ask the person investigating something to not do it and you're the commander in chief, that is obstruction. but as an old trial attorney, i believe everyone deserves due process. this is just the beginnings of this investigation. i think we need a bipartisan agreement to move forward subpoenaing these memos. the tapes. mr. comey's testimony. let's let the facts come out. let's discover this with a thoughtful manner. you just talked about impeachment being a political matter. with the polarization that exists in this country right now, i don't think we can let it be a political matter. i think we need to have a bipartisan effort to find out exactly what took place and let the facts follow where they are. let's

we have mike quigley, the democrat of illinois with us from capitol hill, and as luck would have it, next to him is chris stewart, the republican from utah. gentlemen, thank you very much for agreeing to talk to us. we are all reacting to the same breaking news. congressman stewart, since you are the majority republican, you can go first. your reaction to not just the appointment of a special counsel, but this particular man. >> yeah, you know, i actually think it's a good idea. i've been saying for a while as a member of the committee -- in fact, i had discussions with other republican committee members this morning. this may be the best way forward for us. i tell you, brian, one of the reasons i worried about that is because there are a lot of important things still going on in the world. there's north korea, there is the aggressiveness of vladimir putin in eastern ukraine, a whole list of other things i'm afraid we've been distracted with as we've spent so much time on this one issue. >> and congressman stewart, your understanding now is the work of your committee in this area, do

joining us now to discuss all of this, democratic congressman mike quigley.hank you for coming on the show. so much to discuss, and really some big revelations coming from john brennan's testimony today. of course, the former cia director, really expressing his concern about the contacts between russians and trump campaign associates during the campaign. and then you had the closed door session with him after. what was the big takeaway after? >> the tact that he remembinfor. the russians did successfully hack into our democratic process and there were connections between the trump campaign and the russians. reinforcing that to the american public. >> he stopped short of saying there was collusion. what did you make of that? >> i think that's why the investigation continues. it's easy to forget, we're in the infancy of this investigation and we're already at the point that he talked about today. we haven't brought forth any one of those witnesses that we talked about. we have many more hearings to go and more documents to read. >> you heard the white house rea

congressman mike quigley says this is straight out of the nixon playbook.eahy calling it nothing less than nixonian. joining us now is former assistant special watergate prosecutor and former assistant u.s. attorney. former ambassador norm eisen and also cnn contributor and laura coates. let me begin with you given your history with watergate and all things nixonian. look at "the new york times" then, and look at the front page of "the new york times" today. is this nixonian as many democrat dechls are saying? >> look, it's clearly nixonian to the extent that what the president is doing is firing the person who is in charge of an investigation into him. there's no question that the parallel is there. there are some important differences, though. the good news is that the fbi is an ongoing institution. the people who are there doing this investigation are going to continue the investigation no matter what happens to james comey. he's not a critical part of this investigation whereas with the watergate prosecution force there was just a small group of us that
