i want to go to congressman mike rogers of michigan, a member of the house intelligence committee. he joins us from capitol hill. thanks for joining us, mike. >> thanks for having me. steve: tell us a little bit about this. do you think leon panetta lied in that closed-door meeting? >> well, i don't have any reason to believe that he lied, but i also didn't walk out of that meeting thinking that he said that he and the c.i.a. had misled congress. there is a lot of misconstruing going on right now, and i think it is a lot of political theater, and less based on the facts of the issues. we're not even quite clear yet that there was any requirement under what they have done to notify congress, which is a big difference than they have mislead, which is a crime, by the way, or lied to a committee to mislead, which is another crime, by the way. those very, very serious charges, and we take them very seriously, and i don't think they ought to fling them around like that. that's exactly what got the speaker in trouble, and, you know, the chairman just two nights ago, slipped a letter under

and so it gets more interesting as time goes on congssman mike rogers is joing us now. he's also a member of the hse intelligen committee. he's the ranking mber of the subcomttee on terrorism and counterterrori. and human intellence. congressman, whas your thoughts now with this new development and a reversal that we've had b leon panetta, the cia direor? >> well, i'm not suret was a reversal. i have to tell you i think there'a little political theater here. i was in thatbriefing, you know, rushed d because this urnt announcement. and i think ere's re questions toask. but let tell you this, this was a program that nev fully got engage it was canceled at some point, tried to bring back at some point. it never really reached ev close to what its concept wa and i still have qutions if they're even obligated to brief thcongress. so i think when you me out and sayhings like they sled, which is a crime, they lied to congress, which is a cri. there was nothing -- and i'm a form fbi guy and i take t fas seriously, there was nothing inhat briefing that led me to that conclusion.

mike rogers is a cancer survivor.had been running health care, he might not be with us today. congressman, good to see you. why do you make that claim? >> i would not have fit the profile for a mandated government plan. if it fits outside of the normal, a cold calculation, some things will not be covered. we see that in canada and the united kingdom. at age 19 it is physically impossible to get bladder cancer. someone in my position, mice -- my physician knew that something was not right. i had a little bit of blood in my urine. i was playing football. she said that the other folks in the doctor's office want to say that you just got jarred, i want to say that there is something more. under a government plan it would not fit because someone had 19 does not get bladder cancer. it happens in canada. a young lady wanted to get her cervical cancer checked early, but they only pay for it after age 25. age 23, she got cervical cancer. the only way to control costs is to ration care. had they not call it early, by the time t

chairman there were 28 yk >> republican congressman mike rogers offered an amendment that would leavetment decisions up to patients and their doctors. this is 20 minutes. >> i think we can all agree that comparative effectiveness research can be a useful resource for doctors and their patients, but it should not be used as a tool to limit or deny coverage of treatments. this bill creates an entire new federal regime to conduct ce research. alarmingly, the bill has no restrictions on how the federal government can use this research. this is a dangerous open-door policy that will almost certainly lead to compare to the effectiveness research being used to make coverage decisions. here is what it can teach us. what treatments are generally more effective than others, which procedures might work better for a particular disease than others, of which drugs have a bigger impact and treating one disease over another. this was important. comparative research is about general, average assumptions. it cannot determine anything about an individual patient with a unique condition looking for a uni

mike in. do you think roger goodell is going to suspend further? >> no, i don't. his season if he puts together a plan that convinces the commissioner that he's serious. >> mike, perfect segue to you. what kind of plan does he need to come with to show the reforce and led roger goodell and the nfl community know he's serious about doing something about this and ready in contrition to help out with these causes? >> it's going to have to be a lot more than just what he's doing with the humane society. a lot of people are looking at that alliance before it's gotten off the ground as spin. that's a problem for likal vick. michael vick has a lot of dog lovers who still hate him. the nfl thinks about itself more than one individual player. those are three big things that have to be brought into the case. roger is a tough man. he is looking at things closely. he will leave wiggle room to say if michael isn't walking the talk, guess what, he's going to have a short football career. >> could i say something please? look, the commissioner has to be fair. there have been othe
