the weather channel's mike seidel is in north breach, florida. hi, mike, good evening? >> reporter: good evening to you. and this storm has been churning toward the sunshine state all day long. it's made landfall in the big bend area in florida. tropical storm andrea came ashore and bringing with it drenching rains and winds clocked at nearly 60-mile-an-hour. and a sturn warning. >> it is a fast moving storm, but it will be a great reminder to get ready for hurricane season. >> reporter: this morning a tornado touched down in the palm beach area. in sun city center, florida, outside of tampa, residents were out surveying the damage. >> most of the roof is gone on the top of the house. it's done a lot of devastation for 15 seconds of fear.

mike seidel is in simmering las vegas. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, lester. yesterday, we tied the record for june 28th. 115 on the strip. it was still 100 at midnight. before sunrise, 93 degrees. but it is a dry heat. some of the hottest temperatures we have seen. salt lake city had the hottest june day, 106. in phoenix, where it's supposed to be hot, hotter than average. ten degrees above average. a lot of residents who didn't have the air-conditioning working or needed relief from the blistering heat into the cooling centers. death valley the hottest spot on the planet back in 1913 they hit 134. this weekend, they will challenge 130. that will be the hottest temperature in the world measured in about 100 years. we'll see how it goes. most of the tourists are from overseas. the ones we talked to say they

meteorologist mike seidel in las vegas. mike, paint for us how hot it is out there.not wearing any sort of parka. >> no. just one layer. and i have to wear that. it's required by tv law, i think, richard. right now here in sin city, it's 93 degrees. we're about an hour before sunrise. we're about 4 or 5 degrees ahead of where we were yesterday. yesterday we tied a record of 115 for the day for june 28th. but the key here is the temperatures are taking in the shade at the airport. out here on the street with the heat coming off the sidewalk and the asphalt, we measured temperatures, get this, 150 to 160 degrees. it's a very dangerous heat. if you don't wear shoes you can get first or second degree burns. look at the southwest. not only vegas, but phoenix and all these hot locations, cooling centers have been opened for the elderly. here in vegas you can bring your pets. a lot of times people go to cooling centers and they can't take your pets. here in vegas, you can take your pets. they're not concerned about brown-outs or black-outs. they have more capacity now. so t

mike seidel. >> let's get the national forecast from the weather channel's mike seidel. mike, what can you tell us about what the weather looks like around the country this morning? >> yes, and i can pronounce dallas-ft. worth for you this morning. storms coming into the big "d," down i-35 towards waco and austin, so the morning rush hour again much like yesterday morning, rocky around dallas-ft. worth and north texas. and what we don't need in north georgia, but we never really complain about the rain because some summers we can't buy a drop. more rain and thunder coming into the atlanta metro area for the morning rush hour here. things will begin to dry up after today, but we've had upwards of 6 to 8 inches of rain and we had all that severe weather last week, and it was just not great around here with all the wind damage on thursday. severe weather today up there in your neck of the woods, around new york city, philadelphia, the d.c. area. could be some gusty thunderstorms. that will impact air travel also across parts of the midwest, along i-70 and out through the hi

the weather channel's mike seidel joins frus miami and he has the latest on this. good morning, mike. >> good morning, becky. actually i'm on the west coast in the tampa bay area. we've had some issues this morning with quick tornado spinnups. we often this with a tropical storm system. these are not the twitters like we see recently in oklahoma. they're quick, they're usually weak, but they have caused minor damage in the tampa bay area. the center is off the coast. now it's moving very quickly north-northeast at 20 miles per hour. it's going to make landfall in apalachee bay. later this evening as the tide is going out. that's going to cut down on a surge impact. it's going the be heavy rain, but out here on the beach, winds running around 5 to 10 miles per hour. no major issues. last june, tropical storm, the whole beach was under water. this will have impacts up the east coast, at least into the carolinas, virginia beach into friday. this is a quick-moving system. this front is going to take it out to sea. so the entire east coast will be done with it by later o
