congressman mike thompson has said he is concerned about the secrecy surrounding the project. well caltrans is beginning its final phase of repaving. i-80 near the carquinez bridge. here is a look at that stretch of roadway now under construction. this closure does run from hercules to vallejo in the westbound direction of i-80 and is expected to reopen early tuesday morning. gates of tom vacar walks us through what will happen and how this closure is the final step in a massive project. starting 9 p.m. thursday night until tuesday, 5 a.m, i-80 west will be completely closed for much needed repaving, making it much smoother, safer and far longer lasting for as much as 40 years. why four days over a holiday period? and we targeted labor day weekend is because traditionally it's the lightest traffic that we see in the bay. that's going to be about 200,000 vehicle trips that will be impacted by this closure. this is one of caltrans biggest maintenance closures ever. and that means a detour. fortunately all on freeways westbound traffic must exit at i-70 and 80in vallejo to pachec
